Can't wait to see him in Sky Blue but he shouldn't start tonight. He has to earn his place. I expect he will replace Torp (it's always Torp!) at some point.

Harsh on anyone of the midfield three to drop to put him but there’s a reason he’s so highly thought of and he can’t play Ipswich.

So probably play him but not sure if I’d drop Allen for him or move to a 3-4-1-2

Torp is a starting player under Lampard all day. As good as Allen has been, when Grimes comes into the team, it is for him.

This is a tricky call. If he starts and we dont win then I fear some fans will blame him and fear we lose our momentum of postivity. Got to keep on front foot and attack their back 4 and iffy keeper. Maybe play a back 4 if he likes to sit very deep and spray the ball about.
Allen worked so hard at Swansea so might benefit from a rest before cup game.

Any other circumstances I would not mess with a winning team but seeing as we have another game in 3 days in which Grimes cant play then I'd rest someone. Allen has been a revelation in the last month so maybe give him a rest?

what a great problem to have though

This will largely come down to fitness I suspect. If Lampard thinks the current players are capable of 3 games in quick succession there's no reason to change it.

They have all the data so will know if any of the players are in the 'zone' that makes them more susceptible to injury.

head says start Grimes, heart says start Allen and see how we do/take him off second half to rest him for Ipswich, tougher decision will be who starts against QPR after having to leave Grimes out Saturday

It would be harsh on dropping Torp, Allen or Rudoni but I'd say his stats from x amount of seasons has earnt his place!

Can't argue, Wee. He's not missed a minute this season apart from Saturday. Harsh on anyone currently in midfield, but we could certainly do with him. He's a massive upgrade on our current midfielders, that's for sure.

In so much that he's like a machine. Plays minute after minute, game after game, season after season. Good stats, great passer of the ball, injury free.

Does it send the right message? A place in the side should be earned and nobody deserves dropping at the moment. His time will come.

My view too. If we're playing poorly then fair enough, but I don't think anyone deserves dropping. However, as others have said he could rest Allen and MG can't play on Saturday.

I’m torn between saying he should start and having him on the bench and bringing him on for half an hour or so. I incline to the latter option.

It would be tough to drop any of our midfielders at the moment but with a run of playing twice a week it would be sensible to rotate where we can.

As others have said it is a nice problem to have.

two minds, hes fit, played a billion games in the champ etc, but hes only been playing with the squad in training for less than a week, could easily disjoint the good thing we've got going.

Cup tied so play him tonight and whoever is dropped tell them they'll be in on Saturday. Team spirit important but equally no room for sentiment. Tough call.

Yes, need to be able to get hold of the ball. One of the issues we had away at Leeds was just not being able to properly get out, and the ball got turned over in our own half time and time again.

He's got a bit of history with Leeds with that whole thing about his mum or whatever. Suspect he will be involved in some capacity.

Lampard will take whoever isn’t in the starting 11 & tell them why .
There’s no guessing or playing silly games now , they are treated respectfully & all know their place in this squad & where Doug , but ultimately Frank wants them to be .
With Leeds being physical, especially if things don’t go their way , there might be a few carrying knocks for Saturday ….. but let’s put these big time Charlie’s to bed ?

Grimes in for Allen tonight, Allen back in vs Ipswich.

Have you noticed how no one mentions Eccles any more? 🤔

Eccles provided the assist for Haji's goal against Leeds at the CBS last season. 😁
