Leeds can be promoted on Monday I think.
Means their game Vs Bristol City could mean "nothing"/have less riding on it for them.... Unless they want to go up as champs!?!!

That’s a pretty massive incentive and they only earn automatic promotion if Sheff U beat Burnley away when Burnley are unbeaten at home this season.

We’re in a relatively comfortable position. If we beat Plymouth, we’d have to capitulate against Luton and Boro to not make playoffs.

Boro will not want to be going into the final day needing a win/avoiding defeat which is why the bookies heavily favour us to secure a playoff berth.

Pretty convinced we will need to beat Boro last game which I'm sure we can
Yes, Boro look a very average side. Plus we will be at home. Think we can beat Boro if we played like we did today. Plymouth and Luton away are the matches I am a little concerned about.

Don't you mean if Sheffield United don't beat Burnley!?!!!?!!?

We'll find out what this squad deck and the coaching team are made of on Mon. Huge test of character.

It is but a win today has made it v unlikely we will drop outside the top 6 come the final day. 2 draws against Plymouth and Luton means Boro have to win both games and even then they still need to avoid defeat on the final day.

One win between now and the final day will more or less secure a playoff spot.

Boro cannot afford to drop any points in their remaining games which puts a lot of pressure on them considering they’re away to us on the final day.

Our home record has been more or less faultless under Lampard barring Burnley and Leeds. Boro will not be comfortable going into the final day unless they are 3 points plus above us and a huge GD swing needed in our favour.

We have Plymouth and Luton, there’s got to be 2 points there minimum.

They’re tough games because the teams are scrapping for their lives, but so are we.

3 points from here means Boro can only finish above us if they win the 2 preceding games. If we were to beat Boro, we could afford to pick up 1 point from the next 2 away games.

It’s easy to underestimate just how a strong a position we are in.

I may have mixed got things up but I’m under the impression that Sheff U need to win to prevent an automatic Leeds promotion?

That race is more or less settled in that race. With how the season has ended, I’d feel more confident v Sheff U than Burnley!

You said they'd be promoted if Sheffield United beat Burnley.
That doesn't promote Leeds

My point was Leeds being promoted on Monday then playing Bristol City the following game...

MattSb is saying it might take 72 points to get 5th place. I really think getting 5th place is crucial.

My bad, I didn’t clarify the point that it’d be massive for Leeds because they’d still want to win the league, presumably. Unless Sheff U win, Burnley could pip Leeds to the title. So the Leeds v Bristol will still have a lot on it, especially given Bristol’s weak away record.

Yes, it’s academic because the result is the same, but both Farke and Parker will want to win the title.

Yesterday put us in a very strong position. What we need now is a draw and a win from our games against Luton and Plymouth. We would then go into our game against Middlesbrough just needing to avoid defeat to be in the playoffs no matter what the results of the other games are.

Draw and a win? If Middlesbrough win their next two and so do we it doesn't change anything about the Middlesbrough game. We would still need to avoid defeat against them to finish above them unless we make a difference to the -4 GD. But with Bristol City having to go to Luton then Leeds it could well be to secure 5th.

You know, weirdly, I am more worried now than I was before yesterday. Go figure. 🤷‍♂️😂

It was looking all so rosy until that last gasp winner for Middlesbrough.

So, here's my concern and the scenario I am worried about. It's that Monday might have to be a must win.

If we don't beat Plymouth and only came away with a draw and Boro won again on Monday that would put us on 67 points and them on 66.

Draw again against Luton and Boro won again, they would overtake us at that point. Them on 69 points, us on 68.

In that scenario, we would then have to beat Middlesbrough on the last day and they would only need a draw.

Therefore, I think Monday really needs to be a must win. Boro's next two games are Sheff Wed and Norwich (who inexplicably let 5 goals in at home yesterday to Portsmouth).

I really thought we were pretty much home and dry until that last gasp Boro penalty and I was also thinking that Sunderland would get something at Bristol.

Out saving grace however, might be Bristol City. Next 2 games they have Luton away and then Leeds away. They might possibly struggle to get anything out of those games

Could have really done with Derby beating Luton yesterday I feel. That would have cut Plymouth adrift and 6 points from safety, with relegation all but certain and might have made our task a little easier against them. That Luton win did Plymouth a huge favour.

Anyway, I know I am overthinking it, but I was really confident before West Brom, but now we have beaten West Brom, I am less confident. 😂🤦

I struggled to sleep last night, so I kept thinking about it and it was swirling
around my head on how it could all go wrong.

The scenario we need, is to be already confirmed as in the playoffs when it comes to play Boro, or that we only need a draw against Boro to secure our place.

I do think we need to beat Plymouth. Luton could prove to be our hardest fixture. They were maybe a little lucky to come away with a draw from the Derby game, but their defence was magnificent.

Not sure who to root for in the Luton v Bristol match. Luton win and it hurts Bristol. But if Bristol win, Luton could again look like certainties to go down.

I do actually think Luton will get something out of that game.

I am thinking, forgetting about Boro for a second, if we win on Monday and Luton beat Bristol, we go above Bristol and that then leaves the next confrontations as, us vs Luton and Bristol away at Leeds. A draw then might just be mighty fine for us and pull us clearer of Bristol.

Anyway, the conclusion of all this brain dump is, my brain is now exhausted and has turned to a big mush of jelly.

We need 1 point to guarantee it goes to the final game. Middlesboro will be on 69 if they were to win their 2 games before we play them. In that case we would be on 67 before the game, and 70 if we win. Only Bristol can better that.

Feel like folks are over complicating it. We're in the top six now, realistically there's only one team that can kick us out of it. If we win on Mon, we stay where we are so the players need to go out and deliver again. That's it.

To keep it simple. We need a point from the next 2 to guarantee the chance to set up a play off qualification final v Boro

We're obviously in a strong position, but that late Boro goal has made it very tight. We effectively have a 2 point cushion owing to GD, with 2 exceptionally tough away games to come. Plymouth will throw everything at it Monday. Lose and we could find ourselves outside the top 6 in a couple of days. Aware I am stating the obvious, but there is a long way to go here. Would hate to lose the next two and have nothing to play for against Boro. Unlikely but possible. Would take a point Monday in a heartbeat.

Agree. I don’t think we’d get past Sheff Utd over 2 legs but would fancy us in the final.
Weve got to try and get 5th. Would much rather have Sunderland that Shef Utd in the semi and speaking to Sunderland fans the one team they dont want is us.
watched the Shef Utd game last night and everything they create goes through Hamer who also scored. The only saving grace is he may now be injured with a hamstring injury but would still prefer to avoid them and couldnt take the self indulgent cunts knocking us out

I'm with you, first of all a point to ensure we have something to play for last game

Yeah and I see the Sheff Weds manager has had a right go at his players after their defeat yesterday, so they might be much more up for it against Middlesbrough on Monday. 🤞
I am hoping so but their recent form is awful, they haven’t won a game for ages. Stoke only 3 points behind them now.

Beating Plymouth might be enough. Not that I’m settling for that but beating bottom of the league puts us 69 points. Maybe a draw for good measure to seal it with 70.

2 more wins, no more no less.
A win and a draw is the same as 2 wins in our next 2 games where Middlesbrough are concerned if they win both their games. We would either be 1 point or 3 points ahead of them. They would have to beat us at our place whatever.
