I'd really switch it up reverting to a 5 at the back. Luton are similar to Plymouth in that they play a block with 5 at the back, big physical players that will be a handful. The whole point of switching to a 4-3-3 (or variation) is to accommodate and focus on our good wing play, Sakamoto has been quiet the last few, no EMC, Wright looked better through the middle (when he gets service). So here's my bid.... Wilson in goal (protecting Collins) - back 5 to help deal with the physicality and quick counter breaks with Sakamoto more hybrid when grimes drops deep, MVE push to his more natural RB position. MVE to provide pace from balls in covering Lati. Simms and Wright feeding off each other. It will be a scrappy and very tight game, I'd be prepped for balls into the box and these two to make a nuisance. I'd be quick to replace Simms with Bassette in second half if its not working.

Wilson

Sakamoto MVE Lati Kitching Dasilva

Grimes Sheaf

Rudoni

Simms Wright

if we can win and one of the following, then we are there
a) Middlesbrough dont beat norwich we are there or
b) Bristol C dont get more than a point from Leeds A and Bristol C H
c) we draw v Middlesbrough

if we draw we would then need to draw v Middlesbrough and hope Millwall dont win both of theirs or if not we would need to beat Middlesbrough
If we lose we would need to beat Middlesbrough

Its going to be a nervy 12 days
I can't help but feel Norwich will do a job on Middlesborough. I have nothing to back that up, just that Middlesborough are almost a carbon copy of Cov and with Norwich losing 4 out of their last 5 and winless in those games it's just something that we would do ha!

If Bristol have to play Bristol, you can be bound sure they will play out a dull 0-0 draw

Can you imagine the look on Doug’s face if we won the PO final. All those free season tickets!
Mind you the £90m parachute will temper it.

The Plymouth fans were giving us shit at the end and I think the party atmosphere was a way of us getting back at them. Everyone was pissed off really, with a totally inept performance
Oh yeah, absolutely. However, that Sheffield Wednesday win gave us all a lift and it was as you were. I would say them singing "staying down" was their way of whistling in the dark, I'd rather be staying down that going down which, let's be honest, is probably their fate.

So 433 but the RW plays RB?

Sit Sheaf and Grimes infront of the back four. Make it difficult for them to play through us.

Not quite... It's a with the ball vs without the ball situation. With the ball Grimes will drop deep as he does, MVE will be still in a 5 (MVE, Grimes, Lati, Kitching and DaSilva). Without the ball it would just be 5-3-2. It's matching them up really and if they sit deep Sakamoto can push, as they come onto us, Saka tucks RB...MVE inside just trying to protect the back line with his pace. I'd expect us to have 60%+ of possession, it's just a case of breaking them down/creating chances. Luton's outlet will be outmuscling our CB and driving direct towards goal or creating chaos in the box. MVE a touch deeper in an attempt to cover any mistakes/an extra body to help.

It also ignored the fact there were 8 mins of injury time left after our game finished & I was outside the stadium when I got a txt about Conway missing that sitter!

Makes sense in theory, however you lose that attacking threat if MvE gets pinned back. Which will nullify Tats even more than he has been last 2 games.
This is where we miss Bobby to handle and bully CFs, I think Kitching needs to use his Aggression in this way to do Bobby’s job in bruising.
I think if you go 532 you have to fully commit and slot binks in at LCB and move Kitching into the Center. Yes you lose flexibility however its more solid(ish) in terms of getting bullied by physical attackers.
MvE is a major attacking threat going forward I think Tats has been poor and needs a rest and Rudi could probably offer the tats role of MvE’s overlap

Frank needs to sit the squad down and show them the videos of the play off final and the luton players and fans celebrating our failure if that doesn't motivate them then i don't know what would

Posted it on here a couple of times, but IMO we need to switch back to 5-3-2.

Wilson in goal, Collins looks devoid of any confidence and FL would be protecting him by taking him out the team.

Wilson, MVE, Thomas (if fit, if not Binks), Lati, Kitching, JDS, Sheaf, Grimes, Rudoni, Wright and Simms

It'll be a difficult game for sure, they will be right up for it given they will give themselves a huge chance at staying up.

Back 5 would make sense. EMC probably still out (or won't be fully fit) and Sakamoto is not delivering away from home at the moment. It allows to play 2 CFs. I'd probably go with Simms & Wright, but BTA could be an option.
If he sticks with the 4-3-3 then it will be Da Silva & Wright on the left side, and Sakamoto wide right. I am sure Luton will be preparing for that.

We were still inside. I had no idea what was going on, just looking at the BBC website, which stated 90+8!

People writing this game off because Luton are going to ‘bully us’ are in for a shock. This isn’t the same Luton from a few years ago.

Yesterday they lined up with a midfield of Liam Walsh, Thelo Aasgard and Jordan Clarke. All technically good players but not flat track bullies. Adebayo is out for the season so they have been playing Alli (a winger) up front with Carlton Morris.

Watched a bit of their game Vs Derby.
Everything went in directly behind the back line, forcing the back line to retreat (they put balls in between the keeper and the back line) and asking a question of the keeper.
If Collins is in goal this only ends one way.
They then picked up second balls with high energy ratting around.
This is why Thomas - if fit - will be far better than Latibeaudiere.

Or to simplify all that we do better than Middlesbrough on Saturday worst case is needing a draw against them
