Match Thread ⚽️ Sunderland vs Coventry City Match Thread - Sunday 31st Jul

I also said on their forum that i'd take a draw. ... play them 6-10 games in when they've been "softened up" a little and we are (hopefully) into our stride, and we are favourites... but opening game of season, they are going to be playing with no fear with a massive hostile crowd, there's no...

I ran in the English Fell Champs yesterday in the Northern Lake District. Was comfortably in the points positions (top 40 v40's) for most of the race, but fell apart spectacularly in the final hour. And crashed completely on the final descent and down the final mile of road back to the finish...

    New shop.

I remember back in the 80's there being a club shop in the Co-op on Corporation Street.

If we keep the big 3 (4 including Sheaf)

I think 9th-12th would again be an impressive finish, even with our strongest possible squad. Hope i'm proved wrong, but don't see us being strong enough to maintain a playoff charge (unless the miracle happens and we get another fantastic start to the season). (i don't necessarily blame the...

Track League yesterday on a very warm afternoon in Telford... First up for me was the 2km steeplechase, which i negotiated in a pb of 7:57.... not without its hairy moments though... i'd made an absolute hash on the barrier in the warmup which somewhat dented confidence, and although i got...

    O'Hare bids

This is the issue with actually winning pre-season friendlies.... everyone needs to find something else to get apoplectic about....

    O'Hare bids

i'm not worried if we sell him, as long as we can buy a replacement from the Women's leagues

This is interesting.... I've got what i think is very mild shin splints at the moment, and have an appointment booked to look at it next week. However i've also got some mild bursitis in my elbow and have been prescribed anti-infammatories... which have had the secondary effect of making any...

    Running

Well its just opinion... Personally my mileage won't decrease during a taper, but i'll drop out the intense training a few days early, and replace with easy runs, then the day before perhaps do something like 3-5 miles very easy. Its very personal... a lot of my clubmates also find they get...

Obviously i don't know anything about your training history, so please feel free to ignore this comment.... but two weeks is an absolutely massive taper!!

Fell race yesterday on the "quiet" part of the Brecon Beacons, well away from the busy area of Pen Y Fan. Took a big gamble and tried to attack the pre-race favourite from the start, thinking my only chance to beat him would be to stick on him for the first hour and hope he blows up before me...

    Birmingham Clean Air Zone

The clean air zone in Bham is fairly well signposted (imo) on the turnings off the ring-road into the zone. I expect the main issues are caused by people coming down the expressway and not realising, as here you don't have to physically turn into the zone to go inside it.

    New Kit !

I'm not a great buyer of Cov kits... the only hummel one i'd picked up so far was the "birdshit" one which i picked up cheap at end of season.... but ordered that purple away one on first view, it looks gorgeous and hopefully is as good in the flesh. I'm sure it will be as the Hummel kits seem...

Went over to Warwick Racecourse this morning for a bash at the Parkrun, after not feeling sufficiently fresh to do any club sessions this week. 18:59 in pretty windy conditions. To be honest i'd hoped for a little better, but was my fastest time at Warwick by a good margin, and indeed quickest...

All i could really recommend is take an easier week with perhaps two or three slow runs, give your body a bit of a break. See if that works.

How much running are you doing per week? Are you doing any fast sessions/races/parkruns/etc which might be accumulating fatigue? Fatigue can certainly catch up... i'm currently in the middle of an "easy" week after a heavy racing and training schedule recently. Simply needing to go easy for a...

Did the Holyhead Mountain Race yesterday. Was tough on legs that had raced only 18hrs previously.... held it together for most of the race though, and was in a pitched battle for 3rd/4th/5th right up until the final climb... But on the final climb my usual strong climbing wasn't there... i'd...

Raced in the Midlands Athletics Champs at Pingles Stadium today. 3000 metres. I knew i was in trouble as half the field were sub-9min runners, and my pb is 10:32....! But you can only go out and do your best.... in the end it was a fairly pleasing 10:35.... having ran 10:52 about a month...
