Match Thread AFC Wim'don v Coventry Match Thread - Tuesday 14th Feb

It felt like a defeat when we walked out of the ground last night. Looking back with 12+ hours to reflect, I feel that the team deserve a lot of credit for last night. We so nearly pulled off a surprise win, after our rotten run. Anyone who says they're not motivated should have seen the...

    Stokes

I can see us offering him a rolling, shorter term deal if our manager (whoever that me be) doesn't want to commit to offering a 12 month contract to a player who has been out for 12 months. Makes sense to keep him contracted whilst giving him the chance to come back to full fitness.

    Yakubu

Yes, and I was one of them! Some on here were saying that Yak would be a liability - the glimpses last night suggest he could be pretty handy. He appears lumbering but in fact he is quite mobile when he needs to be. I think he'll put the wind up a few defences; if he can stay fit he is...

    When is his contract up?

    Slade should stay

He wasn't to blame for the late goal, and until then I thought he would get a lot of credit for the "smash and grab" nature of the would-be win last night. He's only had 9 games, I know things are dire at the moment but I doubt things will improve under a new manager. I think we now need to...

    Slade should stay

Another Slade thread? I agree about not sacking him though - even though compo would be minimal, I do not see the point of replacing him with another "permanent" manager until May. Definitely do not renew his contact in May, of course. I would give him until the end of Feb - if no improvement...

This was the table after fifteen games last year

Personally I think 46/47 points might keep us up at a pinch, so it's not quite as bleak as that. Still, it does not look promising.

    Any point keeping Slade here?

I would give him the Gills game at least - he wasn't at fault for the "draw that felt like a defeat" last night IMO, and I was actually encouraged by the way we (almost) pulled off a smash and grab. He is allegedly just on expenses and win bonus so sacking him off won't cost much - I for one...

    Yakubu

Correct - an absolute howler. Our fans were right in line with it and, to a man, we were up in arms.

    AFC Wimbledon Assessment

He are a bit harsh on Burge and Kwame there, probably deserve an extra mark each.

Can't tell if that's meant with irony or not.....

No. You? I was there tonight and for those of you who weren't, don't listen to all this moaning about Slade on here. That was NOT the mood of the fans as we left the ground, his name wasn't mentioned once on the way home and I was with a group of a dozen fans. We very nearly pulled off a smash...

    Yakubu

He looked pretty big, although hard to see if it was muscle or flab. To be fair he did well enough - pretty beast-like in holding up the ball, brought others into play a couple of times after winning a long ball, crisp passing that took our players a bit by surprise with the power on the...

Which two great strikers? I only saw you compare him to Rooney and Owen......

    Spare ticket for tonight!!

If you don't get any That old chestnut........... If you don't get any takers on here, go to the ground early and hang out by the away fans ticket hut/turnstiles and you can probably sell it for face value to any lone Cov fans in the queue.

You mean the bar inside the main stand? If not, I don't know which pub you mean. I've been to that ground 4-5 times and can confirm there is a dearth of pubs in the immedaite area!

I suggest the Canbury Arms, just round the corner from Kingston station (which is one stop further on than Norbiton). Once you've had enough beer you can either walk or get a bus to the ground (or get the train one stop if you time it right!). Kingston generally has got some decent pubs and is...

    Ricketts or Slade ?.

OK didn't realise that (generally don't get into the ground until 2.59 on a Sat!). Sounds like he is eminently qualified to be manager!

    Ricketts or Slade ?.

My question, though, is....IS he still here?????

    Ricketts or Slade ?.

Why Ricketts? Is there anything to suggest he is even still with us in some sort of coaching role?
