Keep hearing this thrown around, not least by ‘that cov pod’ where they’ve mentioned it a few times.

It seems very clear that given Jamie Patterson is now training with us and we’ve recalled Howley and Burroughs that there aren’t going to be any big moves in Jan.

Lampard clearly thought that as a coach he could get a lot more out of what he currently has. Almost every outsider looks at our squad and believes it’s underachieving.

Unfortunately I think if anybody believes we’re going to start splashing any cash without significant outgoings, they’re sadly mistaken.

We have what we have and if we are to bring in quality it’s likely to be off the back off significant outgoings.

Do I believe that there is enough potential in this squad to be challenging for the play offs, absolutely, if we can’t get a tune out of them though, we’ll be in bother.

Starting to feel more and more like the play off final and FA cup semi was our ‘high’ times and the next few years could be a bit of a slog!

I know I’m going to trigger the usual suspects but Lampard as a name if you’re bringing signings in kind of makes sense (well makes more sense than none), why you’d bring him in to get more from the existing squad is beyond me. He’s got no record of that at all.

Even Plymouth managed to find someone with some kind of record. I really don’t get what Doug’s plan is here at all.

Doug clearly believed the latter though didn’t he…

‘Elite coach’
‘Top 6 deck’

No evidence for it though you’re right.

I’ll be honest if he’s looking for investment/ to sell, having a big name coach like Lampard may attract non footballing people to invest tbh

January has never been a particularly good window to do business in general but regarding finances I’ve always believed we’d have to sell before we could buy.
So no surprise there

Demanded a cup run over the league last season, brings in Lampard, he’s certainly upped our profile, maybe thats his plan, or was his plan, this seasons undone all that,

I'd really doubt that ,they would look at Lampard's record and think that would be a waste of money.

Most people agree that the season is already over. We just need to make sure our position in this division is safe.

So can anyone give reasoning to why we should pay over the odds to bring in players to see the season out instead of waiting until summer to put together a squad that can compete at or near the top of the table?

I can see the sense of selling players now who are on the edge of what would be our first team at an inflated price or players not getting a game. See the season out with loans/freebies. Odds are Vik will be sold by summer. We already have players good enough. Let Lampard fill in the gaps for the system he wants to play.

If it doesn't happen by the end of the summer window then I will agree that things aren't going to plan.

I think we might need to bring in some reinforcements just to ensure we stay in this League. Our injury list is chronic and we consistently leak goals at the back. The midfield still needs ‘a strong man ‘.
Lampard can only shuffle the current pack just as MR was doing.

Yes probably the most sensible approach. Needs a decent summer otherwise the following words but not necessarily in this order, could be ringing in Doug’s ears…
Season tickets
cliff edge
sales
falling off

Who says we have no money to buy players? People honestly believe anything they see on social media, we have spent alot of money in the summer, so I can expect that Doug wants to go with what we have and then push for a rebuild in the summer, I can guarantee we will sign someome towards the end of the window, but we won't spend barely any money on them.

Spot on, I understand if we were in and around the playoffs with the injuries we've got then doug would be inclined to splash the cash. But we aren't touching them let alone winning them, so I'm sure doug is at least confident that his top 6 deck won't get relegated. Mid table then a full pre season and summer transfer window and let's see what Lampard can do

There are rumours abound that Doug wants to sell never mind additional investment. He probably thought selling Gyk and Hamer and adding to the squad would get us promoted. It's backfired and more likely to go down than up.

He must have thought it was all so easy at the start, play offs , fans singing his name etc. I can only imagine the harsh reality of being a football club owner is biting now. I would guess bringing in outside investment isn’t easy,I applaud him for trying if that’s what he has been trying to do though. Easy to think at the moment that season ticket sales will indeed fall significantly as the hype and expectations he helped create have not come anywhere close to fruition. My guess is he brought Lampard in to ignite the season in the naivety that the squad would be good enough. When he leaves he will leave us as a better club and that is to be applauded but we haven’t recruited well and that is going to take some significant changes in the summer. We will have to sell Wright and MVE and possibly Sheaf and literally start again in all probability.

If lampards looking at this as a longer term play he’ll be happy with this approach. You can easily blow millions on overpriced transfers and loans in Jan. If the right players are available at the right price, then I’m pretty sure we’ll get some deals done*, if not we’ll have to sit tight. I’d imagine a couple of not so exciting signings (on paper) will come in either way

*this was shown by the signings of Mason-Clark last Jan and Bassette in the summer. They didn’t/wont provide an immediate impact but hopefully good signings longer term…..unfortunately patience is limited in this day and age, especially with supporters

There is the likely bonus of Vik money coming in and potentially to a lesser degree Hamer (if not promoted) too. Appreciate these are Summer funds, but it's money we can use for new signings and likely without selling anyone we don't want to. MVE looks likely to be the exception, and maybe Lati also, but both are not stress sales. Money wise I think we're not in as bad of a position as some think and with assets worth something.

Also worth adding, we have a chairman who unlike previous owners, isn't fire selling assets to stay afloat.

And it's still a better post than people just trying their hardest to be as angry as they can with imaginary scenarios.

Maybe people should stop listening to self proclaimed "ccfc influencers".
