No occupational hazard and if someone pays you more you’re off ….Am I being naive in thinking Callum will feel some loyalty is owed after paying his salary for a year despite him being injured?
Not enough to turn down a decent opportunity.Am I being naive in thinking Callum will feel some loyalty is owed after paying his salary for a year despite him being injured?
I think we will wait and see how he recovers, we don't want another Jodi Jones situation,Am I being naive in thinking Callum will feel some loyalty is owed after paying his salary for a year despite him being injured?
I’m sure he will be fine, plenty of top players have come back from ACLs to a high standard, Alan Shearer, Roy Keane, even here at the other end of the football spectrum Max Biamou came back fit after a nine month absence. COH will be monitored properly and not rushed.I’ll be honest we need to see where he’s at with the ACL. Not played football for a season as well. However, he could return from injury in the autumn and find some form, he can then talk to any club from Jan 24 and leave on a free. So a 1+1 contract in addition to his final year would be the best option.
Sheaf, Eccles, Howley, Burroughs and Wilson are the future.
We have no idea how he will be when he returns. I would not be offerring any contract extension until we do know.I'd give O'Hare a new deal now if he is up for signing one. Seems a lifetime ago but he was pretty much our key man, the player everyone talked about & on the cusp of a massive money move. If he stays fit he is a huge asset, financially and on the pitch. We can't afford to lose that for free in 12 months.
Gonna be a tricky one to balance things so everyone is happy though. We'll want to keep wages down incase of another injury, he was probably mentally gearing up for a massive deal at Burnley... and annoyingly I'd imagine his agent will be telling him to do his rehab here, get fit then have his pick of teams (and signing on fees) in 12 months
Yeah but that's the point, it's a gamble either way. Realistically we won't be able to judge his long term fitness until probably Jan at the earliest. We have no idea how he will be when he returns. I would not be offerring any contract extension until we do know.
Surely it depends entirely on how his injury is recovering. If we did offer him one I would have thought he would sign.I’d definitely offer him a contract. It’s a good gamble - if he stays injury free for a while then he’s a £5m player at the least. He’d been pretty hardy before last season despite getting kicked every week.
The question is more whether he’d sign one imo

But also we could have somebody who fails to recover from a serious injury on a long term contract. I would wait til the end of the year before offering anything personally.Yeah but that's the point, it's a gamble either way. There is every chance he'll be fine once recovered, lots of player come back and have great careers. I think we are just burned by the Jodi Jones situation but I think that's a bit of an anomaly. Jodi seems to be doing fine now anyway.
I'd hate to let a player recently valued at 8-10m slip through our fingers for nothing
Too late then. But also we could have somebody who fails to recover from a serious injury on a long term contract. I would wait til the end of the year before offering anything personally.
