Awesome attendance that most know Coventry are more than capable of with the right performances on the pitch. Over 17k in league one. Fantastic effort. Great for the fans to finally have a bit of hope that has lasted longer than 10 games. PUSB

Yes completely agree you do get a big boxing day traditional surge. But bit by bit this attendance will rise if TM and MV are allowed to keep up their magic.

If we build another stadium, anything less that the Highfield Rd capacity would be a mistake and show a significant lack of ambition.

That's a lot of burgers to sell, car boot sales, conferences etc. etc. to make up the lost ticket revenue.

But .... if you apply the law of Supply and Demand, if you can regularly sell all of your seats in a smaller stadium, the likelihood is that the prices will be increased and the revenue goes up.
If you have empty seats, you have to have cut prices and special deals just to attract customers. Look at Swansea's Liberty Stadium which is regularly sold out with a capacity of just over 20,000, mostly to ST holders.

That would only work if we had to go and watch football. We don't, we choose. Hence Chelsea are increasing capacity not increasing prices to compensate for the tickets that they can't sell due to capacity, or lack thereof. Everything has a ceiling price.

25k stadium unless you know that we are only going into the championship as cannon fodder.
If we have a go in the championship. Then when the crowd exceeds 25k then priority goes to those with previous tickets. Dont ramp the prices up and punish your loyal fans.also if the idea of the stadium is revenue all year round. You need a decent capacity to take on the Ricoh for concerts

When people talk about plants on this forum I have to say when the odd person did say 15k was a good idea and whack the prices up if we get more demand than 15k. I thought there was plants in here.

Possibly but we won't be if we are challenging at the top of the championship.
If the ambitions of the owners is league one football or bottom of the championship. Even then 15k isn't really plausible especially if you are going to be get promoted from league one regularly

How are we going to challenge at the top of the championship when we have one of the bottom 3-4 turnovers in the league and owners who aren't willing to throw in another £10-15m pa?

It depends on their ambitions. One possibility that may happen for example......
Current budget is suggested to be 3 million. That should rise going into the championship so say 4 million. You automatically get 5 million television rights. If we were to hold onto Madderson and he progresses as expected and is sold in the summer for 4-5 million you suddenly have a budget of 13-14 million. If you are able to keep TM and MV with their connections and ability to do well with loans and transfers then you could have a crack.

Or a more unlikely scenario the owners like what they have seen from TM and MV and they invest the 4-5 million instead of it coming from selling Maddison.

Who knows there are endless scenarios. If they win the JR and claim compensation will they then top up the club as oppose to it been self funded?

Whichever way you look at it if we maintain this form it will become evident that a 15k stadium will not match the ambitions of the team and fans.

Also our average attendance over the last 10 years. A period of which I think we can all agree has been horrendous lacking any hope or success is 16338 (not including the Northampton debacle)
So even whilst it has been a crap period of time we have still exceeded 15k. Imagine 10 years of succesful football or at least some hope??

The ironic thing is the person who seems to mention plants the most is you.

Back to yesterday. Good crowd, I enjoyed seeing the stadium a little busier, a good result to keep everyone happy, even though it was a long way from the best football we have displayed thios season, and all round just nice to get back to winning ways.

OK, I'll bite...

There is, undeniably an argument that a smaller ground could help increase support. At the moment, there's little incentive, other than price, to buy early - you can always get a ticket come match day. This stops people buying earlier (harming cash flow) and also increases the chances of people just not bothering come match day, as they find something else to be distracted by.

At the moment, we have to offer over-cheap season tickets, and Wasps have to give tickets away - the ground is (currently) too big for us.

Restrict capacity and you make match day an event, the place to be. It builds pent-up demand and means people buy earlier and at a higher price for fear of missing out. It's also, incidentally, part of the reason why the Ricoh project was allowed to pass through without as much scrutiny as it maybe deserved - after years in the 80s of Highfield Road being more than big enough, we were now selling it out in the top flight.

However, that's not the same as saying 15,000 is right long term, in the slightest. The issue with the Ricoh, in fact, is that it can't be extended easily (who's to say in 30 years we won't have 40,000 itching to get in). As a short term move then a 15,000 could in fact boost demand for our tickets, as it makes the atmosphere better and makes it harder to get tickets, so people miss out on something they don't want to be. In the extreme sense, you could argue Brighton are currently successful owing to being restricted previously to their ground being finished.

So... as said on the Butts threads, I'd be more than happy for us to have a little temporary ground there, and would be happier with that than sharing with a bunch of cuckoos. The issue would be about ensuring it was a prelude to a ground with more potential, however (unless there's something obvious staring us in the face where the Butts is a big enough site).

As ever, it's not black and white. The above in no way suggests I would be happy with a 15k stadium, or it would be a good idea as the permanent solution.

Don you're forgetting other cost. If we get the championship sisu will keep the wage bill at 60-70% of turnover. Our turnover in the championship with increased attendances and championship payments will be £10.5-11m, that will leave a wage bill of around £7m, which I would guess would be in the bottom 3-4 in the league. Mowbray and Venus are good but they're not miracle workers.

No one thinks that 15k stadium is ok for the long term.

Yes I am because it amazes me that anyone who calls themselves a Cov fan would want a 15k stadium and ramp the prices up if anyone else wants to come.
One, that they would want to do that to their fellow fan and two that that would be as far as their ambitions go for CCFC.
Yes yesterday was a good attendance and fantastic to be back to winning ways, however we deserved a win against Sheff Utd to be fair so I haven't befn panicking too much. Was more surprised we kept a clean sheet yesterday. That's a great confidence booster for RCC and the defence.

Or just a good season at any point since we moved there to be fair. This is probably the first proper one and it's in division 3 and comes in the back of the club getting moved away for a year. So it will take time.

Fair enough. I was just commenting on the 'plant' reference, and can now see where you were coming from.

I do agree wholeheartedly with you that we need a stadium with a larger capacity than 15k. What, when and if a new stadium ever happens will be for another day.

It was just nice to reward a good crowd with 3 points.

Walsalls a Tuesday night game plus people are always skint after Xmas and new year, so won't be anywhere near yesterday's attendance. Perhaps 12.5k.

Do you have a comparison between a 15000 stadium full at a high price, and a 32000 stadium pulling, say, 20000 at a lower price? 15000 at x, or 20000 at y. If it worked out about the same, would you prefer fewer fans paying more, or more fans paying less? I am for more fans paying less as it enables more people to see CCFC live.

It wouldn't actually be 15k. You have to lose a certain amount of available seats for segregation and a certain amount will be away allocation so what would you actual number of seats will be left for home fans? 11-12k maybe a little more?

A 15k stadium already isn't fit for purpose even before we have any real tangible success.
