At the start of this season I expected us to finish one spot above relegation. Up until Rotherham away we were generally on course for that. The last few games went very well and we obviously ended up on 55 points. Has this purple patch skewed expectations for next season?
How does everyone expect next season to go? I appreciate we don’t yet know the playing personnel. We also want to keep an upwards trajectory, but I’d take 55 points right now! Would we accept 20th place next year?
Agreed. We need to kick on from here and aim to do better next season much in the same vein that teams that were recently promoted from League 1 have done (e.g. Barnsley, Luton). This season getting to 50 points was a priority by the end of the season. Hopefully next season we can reach that mark much sooner and see if we can finish in the top half. That would be great in my opinion.I would say the strong form over the final 8 games got us up to the points tally we should’ve had in the first place considering all the points we needlessly threw away earlier on. The aim should always be to better the previous performance

Due to the fact you had a few loan players, and a couple of stand out performers this season, squad retention and permanent signings are a must this summer for your club. A good rebuild this summer could set you up for a good few years. You’ve given yourself something to build on, it’s imperative you do so, to avoid being perennial relegation battlers.
Anything less than top 6 and the manager should go
Agreed. When we had 4 fit strikers this season (which was very fleeting), they scored goals. We can’t be as unlucky next season with injuries as this season, can we?!I don’t think we’ll have a problem retaining the better permanent players. I don’t see us keeping Ostigard personally and it’s the defence and goalkeeper that need strengthening the most. Conceding over 60 goals, a large chunk of these being ghastly mistakes, says that’s what the focus should be

So many fans happy to accept mediocrity, and not push for improvement.
Why should players give 100% for the shirt if people like you dont expect it?
We limped along to 55 points with all our games away from home, we started the season after an extended lay off which hampered our first couple of months, we had, horrendous injury problems, far too many loans, no money, and half a squad from our league 2 season.
And yet you would be happy just to get the same points total? Why ffs?
It's time we raised the expectation levels!
We are back at home, we have time for a proper pre season to prepare, we will have new faces in the squad, we would of learnt what the championship is all about, we can get rid of the dead wood (hopefully) and we should be challenging for that 6th place play off position!
We may well fall short, but we should start the season aiming high.
If your happy just to accept mediocrity, then why the fuck do you bother?
If you want an example of what I'm talking about, just look what Barnsley have achieved.
I am sure we will all be going into next season hoping for the playoffs but at the same time we could have very easily been relegated had not beaten Rotherham, which was crucial. For me then it is balancing hope with realism. If we can build year on year and be in a position to challenge for the playoffs within 3, I would say that would be massive progress, and not at all negative. This total lack of ambition sums us up!

And yet they have Connor Chaplin up front, a guy who wasnt good enough for us in league one.Robins said post match comparisons to Barnsley are pointless as they’ve spent £2m to acquire a loan player.
I would expect to finish above Barnsley next season who I would expect to be in the bottom thirdDue to the fact you had a few loan players, and a couple of stand out performers this season, squad retention and permanent signings are a must this summer for your club. Chaplin has played in less than half of their games this season, their main forward 2nd half of the season is the one they spent the massive loan fee on.And yet they have Connor Chaplin up front, a guy who wasnt good enough for us in league one.
It's not always about the money you splash, there are loads of clubs who finished below Barnsley who spent a lot more money.
It's about raising the expectation level, having a target, having a plan to achieve the target, and getting everyone to buy into it.
Moaning about not having enough money is just making excuses.
How much did our player of the year O'hare cost us, or Walker or Dabo ?

So are we saying that we are potentially only 1 decent striker away from a play off finish?Chaplin has played in less than half of their games this season, their main forward 2nd half of the season is the one they spent the massive loan fee on.
The key is to progress each season, expectation should be to finish higher than 16th.
Oxford fans cant believe their luck! However we do, looks like it won’t be against Pompey. Currently screwing up their play-off spot.
Could see it happening. Accrington are one of those teams that’ll do this if you’re bottle-jobs! Also wouldn’t be surprised if Sunderland bottle it. In terrible form going into them.Oxford fans cant believe their luck!
An odd target.. but I would like to see us aiming for a 0 GD. Stoke finished on -2 a couple of places above us. Crucially it would show we are scoring more and conceding less (ideally). I think this would lend itself to a fairly mid table finish also!
