You got what you wanted on Sunday, and I witnessed one of my worst Cov games to date, going forward, we lacked fluidity and freedom, in particular, Barton + Jennings. Baker and Kilbane didn't provide adequate cover for their fullback, with our natural width, we did fuck all with it... and to top it all off, a major criticism of the diamond... We conceded not 1 but 2 goals caught on the break! (1st was on break, 2nd was from corner from the break)

New manager in asap please, not sure who I want tbh.

all we need is a manager who can get us to do that for 90 minutes

Mourinho would struggle. Completely hopeless team. 4-4-2 but how many times did we get it wide and cross it? We didnt do that once.

Ahhh...the good old Mouinho line, it laughable. It wasn't long ago people were saying how great our players are.

Am I the only one who thinks that Jennings' positional play and marking/tracking of his man is atrocious?

You never go to away games
You didn't attend any of the first 10 home games last season
You stayed in the bar for the second half against Bury

Sunday had nothing to do with formation and everything to do with the most pedestrian lack lustre couldn't give a shit midfield in Sky Blue history. Kilbane is like an old one speed wiper, Barton is a light weight lazy shit, Jennings is a bit clueless and is never where he's supposed to be and Baker can't do it for more than one game in five. Nearly all our goals have come from long ball or a set piece. The midfield have got no creativity and certainly no bite.

At preston Barton was slated for being lazy. Their coaching staff did an exercise where they tracked the distances their players covered. Despite him once again being slated for being lazy he had covered more ground than any other player. I heard this from my best mate who goes out with graham alexanders sister. He said hes a very good player and is just laidback. Daft as it sounds I think it's just his demeanour.

I personally think he's a good player, and will get better with more matches. He had an off day Sunday agreed, but I think he will be one of our best players this year.

Fleck to come in, and fingers crossed a new manager who can give them a kick up the arse and get them playing for the full 90 minutes ALL season, not just for a honeymoon period.

We had the ball in the net 3 times and conceded 2 goals all of which had nothing to do with the formation.

If all our goals had stood and we didn't have lazy shits who didn't track back or mark properly we would have won the game. The formation wasn't the major problem. Bad luck cost us our potential goal tally and poor ability and lack of effort gave them theirs.

Exactly right - we actually should have won the game. Conceding the pathetic second goal has zilch to do with formation.

I've had a season ticket for 5 years, had 6 season tickets, and the year imbetween I went to half the games (I didn't have anyone to go with being a junior at the time), I unfortunately watched the whole 2nd half for the Bury game.

Don't get the chance to go many away games, too expensive + time consuming for 17 yr old on minimum wage in full time education.

We don't have the midfield, imparticular the wingers (you know, the most important players in a flat 4) and none of the strikers we have can be effective in the air (bar maybe Cody) our strikers are on the ground strikers.

Baker was rubbish on the wing as was Kilbane.

I think it's all mental now, we get 1 win, we could go on a run.

What I conclude from Sunday, different formation, same mistakes.

You mean exactly what people have been saying when we were playing the diamond, have you considered that is why we have played diamond to cover up our centre midfield frailties by overloading that area with players?

Agreed.

And the fact that we have poor wingers, Baker who played really well v Brum, played shit.

Funny how no one is pointing out that we still got exploited out wide, as we did with the diamond and more so in the middle, than the diamond.

Posters on here were effectively claimed we'd do better with 4-4-2, and we lost, to Stevenage, and when we tried to play it v Crewe, nothing changed.

No, I'm not blaming the formation, I was highlighting the fact that some posters on here think we should play 4-4-2, fact is we played awful, lack of good quality chances, wingers (don't get me started) and we looked restricted.

I also pointed out that a large critque of the diamond was we got caught on the break too often, both goals on Sunday were both from the break, so that critique is flawed.

I went to the game with my Everton supporting (ST holder) friend and he said it was awful, and we simply don't have the mifield for it. I agree with that.

I have a different perspective on football to the older guys, I've only seen 4-4-2 fail, with Cov and England. I've seen the mergence of new formations come into the vogue, and new ideas of how to play football.

The defence lacked support. Jennings was often too far up to offer any support at all for them. I prefer him in that holding role.

The diamond with width is fine, it pretty much becomes a 4-4-2 anyway just with a DM and an AM , it's the narrow version we all hate.

But a new manager will bring his own ideas and for formation. The forum gremlins might soon have a 4-3-3 to moan about.

Yes but when we lost playing the diamond apparently that was all the formations fault, yet when we lose playing 4-4-2 it is the players fault

Maybe it has been the players fault all along and if the team are playing this poorly it doesn't matter what the formation is?

I think 4-4-2 would be fine, just need to get the balance right with personel.

In a 4-4-2 you need two wingers who can deliver a cross, Bell and Sheff can do that, Baker's crossing is awful.
