It is funny the things that can trigger a memory. There is an artical in this programme about Bill Glazier and his new wife. Then there is a picture of their Jack Russell dog. I was born and grew up in Binley Colliery village. One Sunday I was over on Binley Rec. with some friends playing football when someone ran over saying that Bill Glazier had lost his dog and needed help finding it. On walking down to Grange Avenue, there was Bill and the CET football writer, Derek Henderson, stood beside Bill's car. They had been for a drink in Binley WMC, leaving the dog in the car with the window open to let in some air. The dog had somehow escaped and now Bill was rounding up the local kids to help look for it. There must have been about 50 kids of all ages by this stage hunting the dog which was soon found and returned to Bill. Having said their thanks Bill and Derek set off in the car (which may have been a Hillman Imp). A couple of days later there was an artical in the CET thanking the Binley kids for finding "Pint" the dog. There are so many things about this story that you just couldn't see happening today, not least an internationl player (okay only under 23 caps) drinking in a local WMC.
