Just wondering if anyone's viewpoint has changed? This isn't intended as a negative stance thread, I honestly just wonder if people still have the belief or are now starting to doubt.

TM talked of 7 more wins needed. That then became 6 after Blackpool.

5 wins and 2 draws and 3 defeats from the remaining matches would give us 73 points.

6 wins and 3 defeats would give us 74 points.

Do people still believe we can achieve that? Anyone now shifted the other way and now thinks it is beyond us?

We will indeed surely now have to get the 3 wins in a row posters have kept alluding to.

Of course, the total could be less than 73 points. Could be 69 as was the case last season.

To achieve 69 we would need 4 wins and a draw out of the last 9 games.

Anyone who believed we would do it, now waning? Anyone who thought we wouldn't, become more entrenched in their position?

That would give us 70 points. Probably not enough.

In his post match interview TM talked about the lack of infrastructure at the club, in particular the fact that only 6 players are contracted beyond this Summer. I would imagine a common point of conversation among the players is "Where will you be next season?" Not good for team morale IMHO.

But if it were say to be only 69, that means that Bradford and Barnsley would only need 11 points from 9 games ( 3 wins and 2 draws).

You would surely have to believe that they both could achieve just 3 wins out of 9 games, especially based on current form and if you just look at Barnsley's fixtures for instance, that include

Chesterfield H

Oldham H

Peterborough H

Colchester H

Sheff Utd A

You would have to think they will surely be able to get 3 wins out of that.

Their 2 really tough ones on paper are Burton and then Wigan on the last day of the season, but still, if it were 69 points, then Barnsley you would expect to be able to achieve 3 wins and 2 draws out of 9 games.

Think they have only lost 2 in 15, so even losing 4 out of the last 9, which would be a real drop in form, would get them to 69 based on that.

Looking at the table, it seems to be that the top 5 spots are already spoken for. And there are at least 6 teams (possibly 8) competing for the 6th spot. So lets say we have a 1 in 6 chance of getting the 6th spot, then a 1 in 4 chance of promotion. Not good odds. Of course it could happen but its a mighty long shot now. There are just too many teams in much better form than us, and can anyone really see us coming good (I mean really good!) any time soon.

Well exactly, Gaz. We are struggling to win more than 1 in a row, let alone 3 and to suddenly have to win 5 or 6 out of 9 just seems a bridge too far.

The most worrying factor at the moment for us is that the goals have totally and completely dried up. That has cost us dearly and we aren't creating nearly enough chances either.

Personally I believe we will remain unbeaten now being draws or wins obviously till the end of the season wasn't gonna say it but (what the hell) I'm been on the old whiskey n wine maybe a bit optimistic but the crucial games I believe is Wigan n Gillingham if we get decent results there we will make it.....keep believing they need the sky blue army....PUSB

Totally agree otis. First half of the season we looked like Brazil quick,fluid passing 20 plus good chances a game and scoring for fun.

we now seem to be restricted to shots outside the area, no killing balls into the box for arma to score and no creative wide players getting past their marker.

its like two different teams and unless we very quickly get back to scoring and winning games i cant see us having any chance of the playoffs

I think it's just too much of a ask now unfortunately, we really need Barnsley to have a huge wobble, and I cannot see that happening with there run in of games. Looking at millwalls games and only if we beat them we could challenge them.

Peterborough are in dreadful form, they beat doncaster last match but doncaster have to be about the only team in the country in worse form than Peterborough.

Have to be targeting a win, they also have 5 or 6 players missing on international duty as well.

Two defining games coming up now and we are getting to that stage now when games become must wins, 6 points out of Peterborough and Colchester and we will make the play offs I reckon.

That's my run in predictions. No where near good enough IMHO. I've got a horrible feeling about P'boro game. I predicted a win, but think they might cause an upset.

Two points behind sixth spot is nothing really playing a number around us is better I believe and yesterday although we didn't win
I thought the make up of the team looked better equipt to put a run together than I thought it was. I also think Armstrong out for the next two games, Maddison too might not be as bad as feared, Mowbray must look at a new attacking approach and what I saw in Henderson's twenty odd minted might just be what we need.

I found this match predictor on a Grimsby fan site believe it or not, but it's pretty interesting to see the outcome.

I suggest people have a go and see where what the consensus is on where we hypothetically end up.

I had us to finish on 71 points and that was me being generous I thought. With the way I predicted the other matches it had us finishing in 8th sadly, below Bradford and Barnsley, and the 6th place cut off being at 76 points.

Odd as it sounds I'm more confident of catching millwall and gillingham than Barnsley. Providing we take the 3 pts against both of them that is. Maximum pts needed from next 2 tho or its most likely over realistically.

The fact we still have to play Bradford, Wigan, Millwall and Gillingham gives me hope that we can achieve the play-offs still, although I would say we would need 10 points out of those.

If we only had teas below us I would say that it would be beyond us as we need the points mentioned above to catch up with the pack.

If we don't get top 6 this season after how well we did at the start it would be a failure in my opinion.

I wasn't confident 2 games ago. But the 4 massive points since , back to back clean sheets there's no doubt whilst the goals have dried up a bit we have definately tightened up the back.

At this point in the season we need to be tight at the back, The defence have been superb.

Otis I gave you my predictions yesterday, there will be more 1 nils, but firmly believe,we will beat Gillingham away, and they will be the ones dropping out of the top 6.

We Will get into the play offs this season. We may not win today, (banking on a draw), but a much improved performance will slowly see the momentum and confidence return.

Im banking on us winning five more games. Crucial games obviously vs Millwall and Bradford. Season hinges on those two. Minimum 4 points and both games must not lose.

peterborough A : Draw 2-2
Colchester H : Win 3-2
Gillingham A : Win 2-1
Wigan A : Lose 1-2
Millwall H : Win 1-0

That's 19 more points which equates to 74 points. With a good difference that should be enough for 6th place.

on the other hand we could easily win our next three or four and Wigan A we may be fighting for an automatic place!! (Wishfull thinking).

Im clinging to the hope we have had our blip. A little bit of form now (not totally dependant on the result today) then who knows.

We we will beat Bradford and Millwall at home if not 4 points at very least.

Also we are Coventry city, we have been in similar situations all our history especially in premier league where we have had to win 4/5 of our last 9 games to stay up. Seen miraculous ends of seasons.

Yes albeit at the opposite end of the table we have done this before from not so good form.

Otis if we go into our last three games of the season needing 3 wins, I will back us to do that, I will back that up by being at Doncaster and Oldham.

Doncaster away
Sheffield at home
Oldham Away.

For Millwall on 62, to get to 74 they need either 4 wins out of the last 9 games, or 3 wins and 3 draws, 3 defeats.

3 wins, 3 draws, 3 defeats woukd just be average form.

For Bradford and Barnsley, both in 58, they need 16 points from 9 games, so 5 wins, a draw and 3 defeats out of 9.

We in this scenario therefore need Millwall, Bradford and Barnsley all to lose 3 games each, at the same time as a complete turnround in our form and fortunes.

That is NOT negativity, that is just painting the picture of just how difficult things are.

Also makes me laugh when people say Peterborough are in terrible form, so therefore we should be expecting to win, yet with the City and our terrible form it's always been 'well, it's a blip' 'bad form doesn't go on forever and has to end some time' and 'things will change and we will find our form.'

Just us then eh, not Peterborough.

It doesn't matter that Peterborough 'only' beat Doncaster yesterday. A win is a win and look what happened to the 'very poor' Sheff Utd after they beat us. Their form improved dramatically for a while.

I said we wouldn't get back into the top 6 once out and the answer back to that yesterday morning was 'well we only need to beat Swindon and have Bradford lose and that will happen.'

Bradford kept their end of the bargain, but did we really look like beating Swindon at all yesterday? We are hardly scoring at all at the moment and that is a massive problem. Absolutely huge.

On a serious note the three teams we play above us , Bradford, Millwall, and Gillingham are just massive 6 pointers.

Score early in any of them games pressure firmly on them. They will crumble.

Btw Gillingham on current form 9 points from last 9 games , also have lost their two most influential players for the season, Dack and Egan. Their tally over last nine games is one point more than us. We need to beat them at theirs hopefully an sky blue army 2000 plus. Pressure firmly on them.

Gillingham will be the ones dropping out the top 6, a continuation of their current form will see them struggling to get to 74 points.

They easily look look like the weak link and could be team to drop out the top 6.

lets see but ultimately we need to start winning games.
