Lazy urban myth. They were a brilliant team but our squad that started the season was shocking and our team was probably the slowest I've ever seen.
The defence at the start of the season was Oggy (39) - Borrows (36), Daish (28), Williams (22), Burrows (28) with Kevin Richardson (34) and McAllister (32) in front of them. A man with a wooden leg and a stone in his shoe, who'd eaten some bad ham, could outpace them.
In attack, Salako's knees were done, Eoin Jess had flopped and Ndlovu couldn't reach the heights of previous seasons. It wasn't until November when Atkinson was moved upstairs and Huckerby came in to put some pace in the team that things started to improve. We won 4 games in a row in December and were 12th at the turn of the year. That defence was then strengthened with the signing of Gary Breen in January but our team was still not scoring enough goals as the threat was all from the strikers and no-where else on the pitch, so we tailed off again. Too many draws in games we should have won that season.
