touchy little madam aren't you?
Yep
I think he can pick a player at this level.
I think he was the first to identify DMC, destroyed this league
He signed Muphy
He signed Cody (quality at this level)
He got Norwood and Nimley on loan
It is believed that he scouted the likes if gunner, baker, Keogh.
Signed Adam Barton (debatable one)
Tried to sign James Collins
His shite signings were
The two CB's and Reese Brown, Callam Ball, Chris Dunn. (Debatable as only a back up)
So he seems to have an eye for decent division three standard players.
Compare that to SP's signings
oh very classy. i respond to a thread then get the old name calling posts, nice one cheers!!!
im not your pal. you started a silly hyperthetical loaded thread, as soon as someone opposed your
view you got on your high horse. ps you started the name calling, i suggest you may need to grow up a little
getting silly now. like you said its a forum so respect the rules, no swearing
no worries samo. i just felt that your op
was a loaded question to which you were ready to have a go. like you said tho it is a forum. no probs from me either
Fair enough. Hatchet buried?
Thought you'd just be able comment without being personally attacked and it all getting out of hand and personal but then again guess I'm completely wrong.
Look Percy, I have no problem with you but it did annoy me that you accused me of looking for an argument.
If our wonderful owners suddenly decided to have a go and stumped up a £5m transfer kitty (yeh I know) would you trust SP to spend the money?
guess I'm completely wrong.
Even Alex Ferguson signed a number of notable duds. And that is with his vast worldwide professional scouting network. Anyone can buy an ' on fire' player like David McGoldrick or Callum Wilson for a large fee. The trick is to sign an undiscovered player without spending a fortune. That is a much more hit and miss proposition. So, yes I would trust SP with a transfer budget as much as any other manager. The only reason not to, would be if he is going to be let go in the near future.
Concerning with Pressley is that on more than one occasion he has explicitly stated what kind of player he wants and talks a lot about how important their attitude and commitment is. He then signed a load of players in the summer who he has then slated for not showing these things. Working out a player's ability/potential is tricky, but working out whether he gives a shit should be clear.
If he can't do that, how could he be trusted with a genuine transfer budget?
Actually there is to my knowledge only one player he has been quoted as signing as a scout -- David Bell. He was very proud of it "yeah Belly was one of mine"
Baker, Nimely and Mcdonald were garbage at the level he signed them at. The fact Mcgoldrick joined the instant the lazy twat was dismissed is I am sure a co-incidence.
All the players he signed in that close season were rubbish -- including Fleck and Barton. Strange how you forgot Elliot and Kilbane.
But to be fair you get what the budget buys, shop in pound land and you get products worth just that.
Were any of these players his first or second choice or the only one he could get to sign?

Serious question. Look at this article: http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/sp...ews/coventry-city-steven-pressley-set-8236403
It is possible (I agree unlikely) that Pressley will be given money to spend in January. If he does it's likely to be last transfer budget a manager gets for another few years. Would we rather that Sisu withheld the money until we have a manager who is a better judge of players? Andy Thorn and Mark Robbins were excellent at this side of the game. I agree that Pressley is very weak.

Just about every club in our division shops in poundland. Just about every club would sell when an offer comes in for a player. So why are our poundland players shite to the ones that the other clubs have signed? How many other clubs are struggling to even get a shot on target?
It makes it look like we get our players from the penny shop.

it is difficult to judge SP, as during the last transfer opportunities, we had a shit ground, 10pt deduction, the threat of a further one, liquidation etc. A pro footballer would have been concerned about being paid at the end of the month and I'm pretty sure we could not have attracted anyone half decent due to the lack of wages available and signing on fees.
I like SP and the constant changing of our managers has got us nowhere. Stick with him and give him some cash to spend
Yep agree, similar to Blackpool in this fashion. A troubled club destined to go knowehere and publically known there isnt a penny in the coffers, why would you want to go there? The only reason we are attracting players on loan is the fact that the move in temporary (easier to shine in a shit team and all that) but they do not have the commitment compared to the full time players. This was similar to the Adams era where we seem to have a different loan player in every week (or was it just Duffy going back and forth!) and again the major reason why he failed. We need to primarily sign players not just borrow all of them.
