How do you know it's about money for O'Hare rather than he wants to play at a higher level and feels he isn't going to achieve that here?
Fair play to them if so but also says a lot about Doug in a way for me. Their best player is out of contract, they recognise he's a difference maker in their squad and offer him money accordingly
We, have offered Callum 18k a week when Simms and Wright are on 25. And wont go higher, and wonder why he then leaves.
No this isnt part of my 'vendetta' against Doug, its shows that even fucking Preston North End pay their best players accordingly, we dont/wont, and wonder why they never even entertain signing
I meant with us to be fair. It’s a stupid comment to say he’s not worth as much as Simms and Wright as he clearly in the open market will be
Also I'm looking forward to seeing if we can revive 442 next season and then we won't be reliant on a number 10Callum’s impact on the team isn’t the same as Simms and Wright ultimately.
That's not how things work financially.
We're paying Sims £25k a week AND we paid a significant fee to Everton for him.
So the cost spread over a 4 year deal equates to around £45k a week. Wright's deal is around £55k weeks. (Roughly)
O'hare is available on a free, so if we paid him £25k a week it's not bad value compared to Simms and Wright.
If we keep O'hare for 2 years and then sell him for £4 million we will actually make money on the deal.
So for fuck sake, pay him the money!!!
Not sure I agree and our best form was when he came back into the team. Also people are forgetting he ass still just back from a major injury.Callum’s impact on the team isn’t the same as Simms and Wright ultimately.
Sorry but i just don't agree that anyone leaving Coventry could only possibly be doing it for the money. It's their career and they aren't necessarily fans of the club, indeed most aren't.When he was about to go to Burnley Robins said it was life changing money so I'm assuming they discussed it.
I don't blame the lad though I'd love him to stay.
Seriously? 99.9 of football transfers are about money. This will be no different. He’ll go to the highest bidder. It’s very simple. It’s the same reason Shearer signed for Blackburn, why we’ve got players going to the Middle East etc. All the rest is guff. It’s about cash. How do you know it's about money for O'Hare rather than he wants to play at a higher level and feels he isn't going to achieve that here?
I said very likely
Then Preston offer a record contract
I’m not sure it’s a concept that needs a precise definition - in crude terms, the more money a team has available to it for transfers and salary, and the smaller its other immediate obligations, the greater their ability to pay.

Then again we all know Alan Nixon chats out his arse
Personally I think the affordability of the wage bill is quite relevant to what we have or haven’t offered O’Hare, but ok.We are losing £7 million a year so we have without significant owner backing or external funding no ability to afford the wage bill as it is.
This isn’t the point though - the point is if the owner is determine ceilings on transfers and setting conditions on who can be signed that’s a clear issue.
Hadn’t scored a league goal since February. I’m sure other players would be criticised if they had similar barren runs. The elephant in the room too is that he is still within the ‘at risk’ period of re-rupturing an ACL.I’m not surprised DK isn’t prepared to make a player who was in and out the team for the last few months of the season our joint highest earner.
25k a week for 3 years is £4m. That’s a lot of money.
Agree c v d but this has been said before on this forum, when footballers retire its not the end of their earning capabilties.I'm sure there are other motivating factors but money's a big one I'm sure.
Got no issue either way to be honest, it's a short career.

Anybody would think that they’re never going to earn a single penny when they hang their boots up at the tender age of 30 something.
Granted they won’t earn the sums they once did but with wise investment and the opportunities that appear to be more available to ex pro footballers than us mere mortals they aren’t going to be on the bread line that’s for sure.
Not sure I agree and our best form was when he came back into the team. Also people are forgetting he ass still just back from a major injury.
Very true PVA, but not working ever again past their playing days, that’s not a recipe for good mental health.Of course, but if they get an offer that sets them up for life and means they never have to work again then why wouldn't they take it?
I think he could well get a £25k/wk contract, but it will be at a team who can probably afford to pay that to several players without having to worry about cutting back elsewhere, and them’s the breaks. We can’t afford to pay market value to every player that we’d like to sign..
Goals win games. If he performed like his purple patch over the four years he was here fair enough, but turning it on for three months doesn’t get you a £25k/wk deal.
Villa never offered him a contract and he signed for us in the Championship (L1 was a loan). He was clearly disappointed with our contract offer when he got back to fitness this season. Obvious downturn in performance and body language since Feb.
Not sure he’s made his mind up yet though on his future.
He signed for us I L1, when I’m sure the Villa contract extension was more lucrative. Lad wanted to play.
He moves to Leicester or West Ham and most likely will be joining a team fighting relegation, or he stays at Cov and is playing behind Simms, Wright, Sakamoto etc , in a team that will get automatics next season.
Too old.First transfer thread of the summer then
Whilst we aren’t name checked in the article there seems to be whispers we are in for him - Would break the mould of one of our normal signings
Alan Browne set for summer exit from Preston despite offer of lucrative new deal
Preston are prepared for a summer exit for Ireland midfielder Alan Browne even though they have offered him what the club say is the most lucrative contract in the club’s history.www.independent.ie
IF** it is us and we have outbid the biggest contract Preston have ever offered a player in their history, are they just skint or are we throwing money at it
Wages would be an issue. He’s on about 30K a week at Bournemouth with another 2 years remaining on his current contract. If we miss out on Browne and we’re playing a 433 next season I wouldn’t mind Joe Rothwell as one of the 8s.
Back to Alan Browne. I saw somewhere on here that he was reputedly on £15k per week at Preston but is supposed t have been offered more to stay. Is it not feasible for us to compete with that? It would cost us more than that to keep COH
