If you include getting promoted as winning a trophy it's alot more possible,
because then you have
premier league winners
3 promoted from the championship
3 promoted from league one
4 promoted from league two
fa cup
league cup
jpt
european competitions.
+ all teams promoted to league 2 from the conference would have of course also won promotion.
still a big percentage though even then.
Do people support teams because they are successful or do they support teams because that is how they were born and bred? Through thick and thin and all that?
I would love to win cups every year, I am too young to remember the FA cup properly. Would I stop supporting them and start saying I give up if not? Of course not.

No one on this forum supports their club for being successful.
the occasional bit of success though brings in new fans and keeps people engaged. Doesn't even need to be proper success, winning the JPT clearly counts.
Stole city are the longest serving premier club to not get a top 10 finish.
What would their fans want?
Another 10 years in the Premier League?
Or
Relegation but two top 6 finishes in the championship?

Double post
Started this thread just to get the answer to a trivia question - who is second after us in lack of top 6 finishes. Didn't mean to directly moan about how crap it is to be a City fan. Although...
The JPT loss had nothing to do with the off field issues. Poor defending and going gung-ho, getting beat 4-0 in a game we largely dominated is the reason we didn't get the JPT final.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - so please excuse any spelling or grammar errors
i am sick of people saying "we used to be in the top flight for a long time"
Old etonians and Wanderers have several FA cup wins between them ...so what
All i know is that in 43 years of watching city, we have never been in the top 6 of any division
if we assume that over that time, we have been in an average of a 22 team division - the probability of that happening by chance is 885,000 /1
And yes - success is success, which is why we had 30000 against crewe last year in the JPT
so get city back home, and at what ever level we play at - make us competitive
Are we top in the league of homeless clubs championship?
No, but we must have the proud record of the amount of home grounds in the last ten years. ...with another one planned.......
So, what is the answer to the original question? What team is runner up to us for the longest tome without a top six finish? I've got no idea.
Looks like a have got a fun-packed hour or two sitting down on a rainy day to work this out. Watch this space!
Brighton rivalling us for that one.
An interesting fact is 52 out of 92 league clubs have won a trophy in the last 8 years, just goes to show how barren our sucess has been let alone getting a top 6 finish.
Ah but you forget our collection of wooden spoons.
