Well if we get the embargo lifted he looks good enough to me. he scores goals, doesnt matter what league your in if you score goals. I agree we need some experience though, thorns wish list is probably as long as the tale about the chinese!! if we see the embargo lifted in the next few days i suppose he will come being a city fan, or would he rather go to watford?? i know i would

The only time Jukebox played "Down the middle was when King was either "Injured" or serving match bans.
When Jukebox played alongside Platt he played out wide.
In fact watching him at Boro, he played wide there too. The fabulous goal he scored came from him cutting from the left wing and hitting a shot from 18 yards out

Re: Sheff - he definitely played wide left or us the season he scored 17 goals and got his £4m move to Brum, scowcroft played right side and dele and stern John were up front. And at brum he played left again with Cameron Jerome and nikolas bendtner up front.

I agree that juke and king drift wide, but they were playing as front two not as specific wide men. For me that seems to be the way juke and king naturally want to play, a bit like the way Henry used to drift out wide a lot.

For brum king often peeled out wide on Jordan Clarke.

As I previously said he(Sheff) came off the bench a heck of a lot under Adams. and by what you have stated, proves he didn't make many starts...Scowcroft, Dele, John up front...we never played with 4 up front(No sarcasm intended) and the time he spent at Brum"four years" three and a half years were spent on the bench or the treatment room. King at Brum, I wouldn't know, I haven't watched Brum play for years.(The one time I did watch them was against Cov, and King was conveniently "Injured" so didn't play.

I think Sheffers could do a job up front next season if needed? Not sure where he would most benefit the team really.
I'd say midfielders were just as important in our recruitment drive as strikers. We need a Good solid centre mid and some nippy wingers. Depending obviously on ATs preferred formation.

I'm sorry but you are wrong about sheffers under Adams. In the 2005/06 season (his peak) he played out wide all season. He started 48 games (inc 43 in the league) and scored 17 goals. He then replicate that the season after for birmingham.

Scowcroft made 40 starts 3 goals
Dele made 42 starts and 12 goals
John was signed in October started 31 and scored 11
Morrell started early in the season started 12 and scored 3.

No you are wrong an Stu is right, a quick look at the games under Adams shows he started most of them but was substituted off the pitch from 70+ minutes in maybe about 1/2 of the games. He also played LW where he had his best goalscoring season for Coventry and Birmingham

Juke and King never played as wide players under Thorn, not sure where you have imagined this from. They may make runs down wide but you never saw them hugging the touchline whipping in cross after cross, they played their natural game and both had there best form of the season when Thorn became manager.

Hate to dampen peoples hopes but how many players were we linked with last season while early bird prices were on and how many came in. While shitsu own us we will get no one only see others leave.

Also why would anyone who has an up coming career want to play for a team on such a downward spiral, until we get new owners and management no quality players would risk their futures with us

I stand corrected, you were right on games under Adams, however, you were wrong on playing four up front, Coventry have NEVER(Not since the 60s') played more than 3(At most) up front. Doyle and Hughes were no where near good enough to cover midfield in a 4-2-4 formation on there own. I think you will find Sheff and Scowcroft both played midfield, with "Scowcroft SOMETIMES used as a winger for Coventry"...

Yeah great debate! I just think that Sheff hit is peak in those two seasons and injuries have sapped his pace and he is no longer the player he was. The problem is a lot fans think he should be the same player and have too high expectations.

I agree re Doyle and hughes. As I remember it was a very fluid 442-424 mainly because Sheff and scowcroft were slow to get forward. Scowcroft was a great outlet though pulling wide on the fullback for the goalkeepers kick - he used to win the header every time.

That was the season we had our highest ever finish.

Tbh I'm with you, I'd give him a run up front. But it has been a long time since he played as an out and out striker. I wonder whether he's ever been in and asked AT to play him there.

In his first season he was great for them getting them out of the championship, in his first season in the prem he was very much a squad player and made some decent contributions. The next two seasons he was injured for most of them I think.

He was pretty underused after they got promoted and especially so once Bruce left the club-and to be fair, even at his peak I don't think he was PL quality.

Sheff..You're right about people expecting too much from him...his best days have definately gone.

Agree. At his peak he was a good Championship player. Now an average championship player, which will make him one of the best in league 1.

Yeah that's fair, I think his experience will be very useful to us indeed as well as his quality for the 3rd tier. His legs have gone but I think he looked best this season at the top of the diamond in a free role-aside from perhaps Baker I don't know who else we have who could provide that.

Yeah and they signed Kapo as soon as they got promoted, that was the main reason he didn't feature as much in the PL season. The he had his injuries like you said.

All depends on the formation then, obviously AT will have Cody Mac up front with platt or new player. So perhaps Sheffers will be deployed at the tip of our sparkling diamond can see him doing well there in league one to be fair.

After playing up front and scoring after early adjustments due to injuries in one game this season, Sheff said "...pffft, I think that's probably been the most enjoyable hour of my life in the past 4 years!"

When interviewed in the CT in pre-season, he said "I've always seen myself as a striker, that's my position, that's where I want to play." He promptly started the game against Leicester up front, looked like he hadn't actually done any running since last season, and we-and AT-decided he wasn't a striker anymore. When he went up front again this year, he went on the best scoring sequence of any player at the club this season, including Lukas, and looked our best player for the first time this season.

To me, it's simple: he's a striker, play him up front!

BTW my mate who supports Yeovil warns me about the lad Williams who we've been linked with: he says he's the real deal, more than good enough to play above L1, pretty quick, and the reason he struggled so much at Bristol Rovers was because they played him out wide: lets not do that with him if we do ever get out of an embargo and sign him-like we did MacKenzie, Mifsud, Simpson, Eastwood....
