Anymore gems? (1 Viewer)

I don't know too much about our youth teams like some here. Once we sell Stevenson in January, are there anymore real gems left in our youth system?

I do sometimes wonder is Fisher in the background thinking where can we completely rinse the club for cash and hence the last decent youngster?

Fisher should just write to Barry Fry and ask him where he gets all his non league gems from.

It seems somehow our academy keeps churning out gems So I'm sure there will be a couple more very soon!

The real problems start when the gems run out
Grendel correctly pointed this out last week.
All the good local kids are being poached by all the Premier and Championship academies. Only one or two left in the pipeline now.

Yes, plenty of talent still to come. We have a large number of extremely talented young players going right down the age groups.

Obviously Stevenson and Harries/Thomas/Maycock are playing in the first team, there is a lot more to come from Thomas I think.

If you then go down a couple of years, we have 4 top notch U18s in my opinion which have been part of a very successful U18s side so far and I know these lads are regarded highly.

Finn (#10 or a #7), Ponticelli (#9) Bayliss (#8) and Stedman (#10).

Going further down, the 15/16 age group (U16s) is supposedly one of the most talented groups we've ever had and the talent hasn't been unnoticed with 2 of the players being selected by England (most of the other players for Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City, Chelsea etc) so we're definitely competing with the big boys at this level. I believe both of these players have already signed their scholar with the club which is good news.

Keep your eye out for a lad called Jonathan Ngandu - only an U16 but has been playing regularly and scoring for the U18s. A 360% footballer which is very rare at his age. Like I posted in the U18/U23 development thread a few weeks ago, he's only slight but he'll never need to be bigger or quicker than he is at the moment. He can change direction freakishly and I've never seen a player so technically gifted play for our academy sides.

Take this for example. Look how sharp the turn is for his first goal, you can see why they're fast tracking him through the age groups.

Hopefully this post has helped a few people. If anyone has any other questions, I'll try and respond as well as I can. There's the U18/U21 Development Thread which is stickied at the top of the forum which I and a few other posters try to keep updated which is a good read for those who want to find out more.

I thought big things were expected from Chris Camwell. Has he moved down the pecking order?

My overriding thought when I read this is what will we do when the academy is all but gone at the end of the season

No, I don't think so. Just the 3 players I listed in my opinion are further ahead in their development and that's why they've been regularly part of the U23s.

Camwell is still a bit raw and probably not ready for that level yet but when he is I believe he will be an asset moving forward as he has a wand of a left-foot
Yes, I remember you saying. Let's hope he comes through and all the others too.

As great as it would be having a team full of academy products (Wilson, Maddison, Christie, Stevenson etc in the last few years), unfortunately with our current league position and the clubs situation it will be very difficult to match their ambition and they will move on eventually. Just like the majority of clubs I suppose, even the big Premier League teams find it difficult

Is the good standard matched in the younger years such as u12 and below or is it impossible to tell that young?

The biggest worry for sisu is that they don't sign deals or others in the future don't sign as their cash cow will be gone. Our worry is we see them briefly and they are off and the time is getting shorter.

eventually yes, but Maddison after roughly 20 games and looking like Stevenson after 18

its more like "immediately"

I imagine so, I don't know much about them age groups but I think they do quite well too.

The U12s did beat United, Liverpool and Wigan last year though in a Premier League tournament so they must be of a good standard to compete and beat big Premier League clubs academies
