It was such a hit and miss performance and players were doing some good things, but them making silly mistakes.

To my mind, the only consistent player out there tonight (penalty apart) was JOB.

Not sure I can mark anyone else accurately at all. Our performance was all over the place at times. JOB and then Murphy in the second half and maybe Tudgay when he came on.

Back 4 error riddled, Burge nervy and for every one thing Fleck, Lameiras and Vincelot did right, they would make an error. Armstrong was just totally marked out of the game.

Anyone want to have a go?

Ricketts scores great header but also tried to dribble out of defence only to be tackled, Fleck pass completion was poor as well as being caught in midfield too often, Vince Prince - hardly got near the ball. Murphy should have been the match winner if the team could manage to pass the ball in front of him. First half I thought Southend looked good but after our performance in the second half I'm convinced it was our inepittiude that made them look good. aaron Phillips was very poor.

burge- 6 - not sure he could have done much with 1st,need to rewatch it. unlucky with the pen i guess. spared rickets blushes with a bad passback,still not convinced at all though.

stokes - 6 - didnt get into the game in attacing sense till last 20 mins, nearly set up goal at the death

rickets 6 - goal bumps his rating up,but he had a bad game

reda- 6 - same as rickets, good goal but overall not a great display imo

phillips 5 - offered nothing in attacking sense and didnt defend well. i know i wanted him to start games but he poor tonight i felt

vincelot 6 - was ok, but presence wasnt really felt in the middle

fleck - 6 - not as vital today,but played alright. misses maddison in the middle i think

lameries 6 - started really well with 2 brilliant passes in first 10 misn to murphy,these show he can play as number 10. but then faded big time.

o brien - 5 - has to be a 5 for missed pen, i knew he would side foot it.arghhhhh.

murphy - 6 - v poor first half but out best player the 2nd. more to come from this lad i think.

armstrong - 5 - not in game. ran alot of stuff down though.

tudgay - 5 - didnt win much in air, but hes a poacher and was nearly the hero tongiht

overall a poor display indivdually, but we still scored 2 goals and will be dissapointed we didnt win. would have liked to see another sub in last 10 mins but mowbray knows best. we dont play down middle much without maddison and that will make us predictable,we need to sort it.

frustrated not to win but still positives to take.

Well it's all about opinions I guess but his passing was poor and on at least 2 occasions he gave away possession that could have quite easily resulted in a goal.

Burge - 6 - Not an awful lot do. Done nothing wrong.

Phillips - 6 - Other than the pen he gave away he looked solid and uses the ball well. Much better at RB than Willis IMO.

Ricketts - 5 - Very poor, sloppy on the ball and looked a bit hesitant.

Johnson - 3 - The guy was awful. Bullied by Noel Hunt, genuinely could have cost us 2 or 3 goals first half.

Stokes - 7 - My motm, he's improved a hell of a lot.

Vincelot - 5 - Sturggled to influence the game, didn't break up enough of their attacks. Poor.

Fleck - 4 - Woeful game after his best game since being here, he needs to find consistency.

O'Brien - 6 - Average.

Lamerias - 6 - Thought he started well, seemed to get intimidated after 25 mins and drifted out the game.

Murphy - 7 - Brilliant second half. If a game becomes open he could win games for us.

Armstrong - 5 - Very quiet.

Tudgay - 6- thought he done well, links play, should have scored last minute though.

Ricketts tried once to dribble out of defence. Bizarrely you actually in an earlier post credited johnsons defending. He gave one of the most inept defensive displays I've witnessed. The Southend forward made him look a laughing stock. We missed Willis more than Maddison as Phillips was also dire.

Johnson - 3 embarrassing
Ricketts - 7 quality defending especially as he had the lummox Johnson as his partner
Stokes - 7.5 take note Johnson and Phillips, defenders need to defend first

Armstrong - 6 welcome to the world, need to adapt now. At least championship clubs will not be calling anytime soon

Too harsh by city for life.

Tough to judge Fleck tonight, when we were on top for the last 35 minutes everything good for us seemed to be through Fleck and Murphy. However mixed in with it, the sloppy moments which could have shot us in the foot.

It was Phillips. Ricketts was a one man central defence. It was such an abject display by Johnson it defies belief.

Armstrong - 6 Reckon he had a bollocking at HT for not passing at all in the 1st half.
Lamires - 6 - Flitted in and out. I'd have taken Murphy off personally

I actually though stokes was woeful first half and i normally back him up lol.
Phillips besides the penalty was not that poor ..reda was not as bad as being made out and fleck had his weakest game if the season .
Armstrong didn't put a foot wrong on the ball when he had it just didn't really have much to work with .
Murphy looked pretty good today and was our best player .
Tudgay actually had a decent half not bad by any stretch of the imagination .
Burge has got to command his box more ..he is far too static on his line when he should be bossing that 6yard box.

Im just pleased we got the point in the end as the display as has been said was very iffy .

Johnson and ricketts were terrible, need to get back to basics we can't score 2/3 goals every match, need to to get back to clean sheets if we want to keep winning games. Also why is it every time we score we switch off. They could of scored more tonight, but so could we so was probably a fair result. Wasn't a great performance way too open and too many errors.

also would like to add the Ref was horrendous he wasted more time than the Southend players, he didn't have a clue...

About time all this Reda love stopped just because he is a goal threat. As a defender he is woeful, slow and clumsy. His positional play in the first half left us wide open time after time last night.

The penalty we gave away was suicide. Why Phillips felt the need to go to ground with a tackle on a guy running away from goal I will never know. Good defenders stay on their feet, on your ass out of the game.

I thought both were penalties tbf so the ref got the big decisions correct albeit he was a little slow but the ref wasn't as bad as some on here are saying. A bit card happy and unfit sure but this is a league 1 game. Refs aren't going to be amazing.

I was a fan of burge tbh until tonight he highlighted what people have been touting on here. Can't command the area but still makes good saves. Cost the game tonight. Should of saved the penalty also.

reda isn't as bad as people say either. The whole back 4 bar stokes wernt great tonight. Reda scored and played ok imo. Not amazing but not as bad as a 3 from Grendel.

Agree with a lot of that. Unfortunately a lot of fans have made up their mind about Burge, whilst I accept he doesn't readily inspire confidence, not sure he could be blamed too much last night. For the first goal we were way too deep, as soon they took a short corner we should have pushed out. That to me was a collective mistake, although maybe Burge should have screamed to get the players to push out. Not sure you can blame him for not stopping the penalty.
Phillips had a good start to the game and linked up the play with O Brien very well in the first 20/30 minutes, the penalty was a very poor decision by him, after that his performance level dropped. But to me he actually looks like a football player unlike Willlis. Agree with you about Stokes he had another very good game, always looking to provide an outlet on going forward, had a decent effort in the 1st half.
The centre backs looked shaky at times, although to be fair Ricketts has generally played pretty well so far this season.
Fleck worked hard and always showed for the ball, unfortunately his worst game by far with lots of misplaced passes, but has a decent start to the season.
O'Brien had a pretty good game, penalty miss aside, and the selfish booking he took. Never been a great fan of his,effort aside, but he has hada very good start this season.
Not yet convinced by Lameiras, a bit lightweight and gave the ball away a lot last night, although he is capable of producing moments of real quality. I thought Murphy was poor first half, but he came alive in the 2nd half and was easily our greatest threat, and has real pace which should prove a great outlet. Expect him to get better and better with more games.
Armstrong had a quite game, but has real quality, and always looks a threat, unfortunately he didn't get great service last night.
Overall hard to work out, if it was a point gained or 2 points dropped.But I think most fans would agree that the entertainment level has soared, last season games were there to be endured, now we can actually look forward to games with genuine excitement.

I don't think Burge done too much wrong last night, yes he doesn't command his area like he should but is that down to shit coaching? I still think Oggy needs to go..sorry for the Oggy lovers..
Phillips will have better games for sure, a little reckless diving in for tackles in the area.
Stokes looked a little shaky at the start but grew into the game
Reda was caught too often on the wrong side of their strikers but really smashed his goal well
Ricketts got caught a few times also but again took his goal well
J'Ob battled well although didn't seem to hold position, his penalty was a poor miss but he kept battling and never let his head drop.
Lameiras tried to link up with Murphy but it didn't seem to work last night, was surprised to not see him for the 2nd half
Fleck created a lot of space and nice touches but then dreadfully gave the ball away when under no pressure on a few occasions
Murphy woeful 1st half looked terrible then midway thro' the 2nd half seemed to wake up but looks short of a yard or 2 of pace maybe thats fitness I am not sure
Vince.. milled and mooched around breaking up some of their attacks but was in and out of the game also dreadful passing at times
Armstrong..didn't really get the right service, he needs it to feet not 2 feet above him, was marked out the game mainly by poor service so he needs to work hard on a plan B because plan A has been found out

On reflection not a good day at the office, we didn't really threaten too much our defence looked to concede at every attack, our midfield seemed detached from strikers and defence, but we battled to the end and grabbed a point which as the match stands I think was a fair result..
The referee was not very good, Vince got taken out from behind their player never even got spoken to, he seemed to have a bias towards them, he missed too much and made too many bad decisions,this is not sour grapes by the way

Don't like to single out players, especially for criticism, but how shocking was Lameiras last night? There was a 10 second spell where he received a pass, he miscontrolled it in a good position then a few seconds later he got another ball into him and he did exactly the same thing.

Definitely not a starter for me (if we had a squad). TM said he had to be managed - which hasn't been the case so far. Maybe he thought he'd be getting better players/better backing

Sorry but It's time for TM to call on some of our younger players rather than other team,s academy players. Current first team have no hunger or real confidence. The players in the 21s are ready, passionate to win and can play.
