Well that ruined the profitability. I can see why ranson sold the concept but to buy a club without looking at the detail of the arrangement and then to be so hands off for so long was very peculiar.
Come on now Grendel you don't actually believe that bs do you?
The detail? Oh yes. I was living briefly in Southampton at the time when Ken Duliue was trying to get sisu in. We were the last minute option when they saw sense. They weren't interested in any detail. For some reason they assumed that getting hold if a championship club meant premiership money in a couple of years. They could easily have allowed administration and took their time but they did not. They just plunged in.
what would of happened if SISU hadn't of "saved the day"?
Would it have just been admin and -10 points? With a new owner.
Or a new club bottom of the pyramid?

Geoffrey Robinson would have /bought It back from himself IIRC.
Would that have worked out better than where we are now? Hypothetically?
I agree that those who say they are trousering money are talking nonsense. There is no real money.
The premier league was dubbed the Greed is Good League by the late Brian Glanville. He'll knows what he would think now. Greedy owners, greedy players and greedy fans. It has destroyed the fabric of the game through gross inequality.
However, let's not kid ourselves. Sisu entered the game to join that particular gravy train. It's just unlike some of these other owners they were clueless. Employing one incompetent chairman who in turn employed a dreadful manager and replacing him with an even worse coupling.
Now they embark on their latest strategy of attrition. No doubt it will take just as long and be as successful as the first game plan.
The point you fail to realise is greed is ok in football - it's a greedy game and perverse by all norms in industry. The owners do though have some corporate responsibility to the community and the decision to remove the club is for many the final straw in a reign where the hedge fund have behaved more like the proprietors of Fawlty Towers than an international finance portfolio.
Whatever you say the situation is dire.
I applaud your attendance at sixfields as I believe the club has to have some continuity of support for the future.
I'm not bothered about greedy owners but these greedy owners can't even do greed can they? We lurch from one fiasco to another.
The real issue though RFC is the move. They should have considered that implication above all else. They didn't and they didn't value the community at all. So for that I think they are the worst owners - not the greediest and not the worst at managing the playing side and development - but because they failed to consider the customer.
Since when has Brian Glanville become "late"?
No sign of death in BG yet. I think this poster has another inaccurate posting.
Are you talking about a rugby player of the same name? I sense a "Jocky Wilson said" faux pas.
Oh Christ I meant great -- ha ha ha. He is pretty old though.
Yes he is great. As you get older more and more people in the media and such like you know. I was shocked to hear of BG "lateness" so thought Id better check.
The good news is he is still fine and writing articles particularly obituaries ironically ! The latest Guardian offering being on the "late and great" Di Stefano
I've read a lot of his books and articles. I hope I haven't put a pre cursor on him!
pre·cur·sor
[pri-kur-ser, pree-kur-] noun
1. a person or thing that precedes, as in a job, a method, etc.; predecessor.
2. a person, animal, or thing that goes before and indicates the approach of someone or something else; harbinger: The first robin is a precursor of spring.
3. Chemistry, Biochemistry . a chemical that is transformed into another compound, as in the course of a chemical reaction, and therefore precedes that compound in the synthetic pathway: Cholesterol is a precursor of testosterone.
4. Biology . a cell or tissue that gives rise to a variant, specialized, or more mature form.
I don't think that is possible LOL

I've said it on numerous occasions actually. Let's be clear. The club has no future under the arrangements that ACL and the council want as there will be no interest from other owners.
Let's also be clear. If sisu had managed to break the lease and obtain the stadium then a season in Northampton would have been a small price to pay for the long term future of the club. It was always a long shot though. A company that considered Ken Dulieu and Ogwe as fitting boardroom members and Andy Thorn a manager was never likely to pull it off. I've never really fathomed how such an intelligent person as Joy Seppala clearly is can have left the investment in such clownish hands.
ACL are the problem ultimately as without the rights they bring the stadium is no more valuable to the club than a cowshed with 15,000 seats. Sisu are so incompetent though they can't even finish them off.
A curious post. It was clearly a joke regarding the harbinger reference. why are you attempting to antogonise me? It's interesting you have no argument against any post I have made today but resort to pitiful cheap jibes.
Can you justify that?
Everything would be so much easier if ACL were out of the picture. I wouldn't wish for anyone to lose their jobs or anything, but this sub-lease & the fact that the uncle's sister's dog owns the pie stand is all bullshit.
Sisu would lease from the council tomorrow. No question.
Unless Sisu own the whole thing, casino, car parks and all, they'll always have to share with a stadium management company. Was always going to be an issue with a mixed use stadium.
"Mixed use Stadium" HELP!
Thought it should have primarily been "The Home of Coventry City FC", pity that it's never been and never ever will be the case.
The Arena need the Club much more than the Club need the Arena!
There has never been any proof that they didn't intend our club to take over full control when we were back on our feet.

In the spirit of reconciliation, it would be helpful to meet nu-Grendel halfway though
If only that was true.
The Ricoh was and will again be our home. It is nearly two years since SISU first contacted the FL about moving our club away and building a new stadium. What have we had other than a few pictures?
The arena was about much more than a football ground. How many other grounds have what the Ricoh has? It was about rejuvenating the area of Coventry it was built on. It was about creating jobs. This was done.
Our club could have done well out of the build of the arena. Our club only put 1.7m into the whole build costs but were given a 50% share in a long lease for the whole thing. Yes there was a mortgage, but this came to owing less than half a million per year of the lease. And it looks like the rest of the arena makes this much. The naming rights would easily pay the mortgage off. They should easily get 1m a year for this. So if our club was still at the Ricoh we should have been looking at clearing the mortgage off on the next renewal. More income to our club once this is done. And if this wasn't the case the mortgage would in the end be paid off via inflation. Just like the mortgages of generations of homeowners were.
There has never been any proof of wrongdoing by CCC over the Ricoh. There has never been any proof that they didn't intend our club to take over full control when we were back on our feet. We have had the shouty types saying that CCC did it for the money. But they put 10m of their own money in and have never taken a penny out.
If there was still a good relationship between our club and CCC things could be so different. But we had owners that wanted it all now and not wanting to pay for it. All the money lost in legal fees and lost revenue would have paid for half of ACL. A few more years of the extra income could have bought the council out if there was a decent relationship. The naming rights could have paid off the mortgage. Our club could have had the extra revenue plus rent free for over 40 years. And in the next 40 years they could have negotiated it for the full lifespan of the stadium. But SISU didn't take this route. They were not out for the long term viability of our club. They were after the short term gain of their investors. And so far it has backfired disastrously.

Well, the 50% Higgs share has always been the only part on offer. CCC have/had never intended to sell their 50% share of ACL to the club, even before this all blew up. Certainly not at a 'fair price' anyway

Where has that outburst come from? NW is basically saying that one man's fair price is different from another's (the same as you basically)Not really true is it.
Remember what the so called road map was about? Pay off Higgs and get rid of ACL. It would have been a goo start.
So how were CCC supposed to let SISU have the remaining 50% of ACL when they wouldn't even give Higgs the money for their share....which happened to be less than they had given our club for it.
You talk as though CCC should just hand over every demand that they get from SISU. Shall we forget about the cuts to services? Shall we forget about the redundancies of 1/6 of the workforce? Then they could pay off all contracts and give Joy what she wants. They can give Joy what she demands. After all our football club is more important than anything else.
In the meantime the ones of us on planet earth can see why nothing is moving forward.

Not really true is it.
Coun Mutton said the council still had a “not for sale” policy on its 50 per cent share.
Can't trust that NW...
Surprised the SISU rent boy/SISU plant/SISU apologist/You are Tim Fisher claims haven't erupted again:sarcasm:
