What a striker Adam Armstrong is. I said last week all he needed was the service. He got that service from Fortune on Saturday and proved exactly what he can do when given the chance. But with Newcastle seriously struggling in the Premier League, the question has to be raised about his future. His parent club have a 24 hour release clause in his contract which can be utilized at any time. So for this week's Cooks Question, i want you to be impartial. Forget that you're a Coventry City fan. As a neutral, would you recall Armstrong. Can he cut it in the big league? In my opinion, i think it's too soon. League 1 is completely different from the Premier League. A different tempo, a different calibre of defender to beat. Yes, he's performed in League 1, but i think he should be allowed to stay in League 1 for the rest of the season. If Newcastle go down, he should be given his chance next season, much like Andy Carroll was given a shot last time they were relegated. If not, they should loan him to a mid table Championship side. If McClown is sacked whihc he will - he will be recalled immediately as a new manager will want to make a change - when you see the leagues top scorer in a League 1 club - he's championship level - The Geordies are virtually in the Championship again so all the expensive guys will leave !

He won't be recalled in an instance, Mike Ashley has not invested £50mill on players this summer, to then think screw it i'll pin Newcastles hope on an 18y old reserve player.

It's common sense.

I would like to think he stays for the season, he would struggle in the prem without decent service and if they go down they have a ready made championship player to start the season with!

If they recall him it will ruin his progression. He's banging them in for Coventry, he's happy to be playing every week at a senior level in front of a 12 000 large crowd. They need to build him up carefully....not let him play 10 games in league 1 and automatically assume he's the next Alan Shearer.
I'd let him stay till January, no matter what happens. Then either look to give him a months loan out to a championship side and see if he can cut it at the higher level, bigger crowds more pressure....Or you let him stay here, help us most likely get promoted if he carries on this form and reassess at the end of the season. You never know we could be playing against this lad next season in the championship...

Put it into context really, he’s an 18-year old boy who needs to develop his game. The qualities he has hurt defenders in this league but at this moment in time, I don’t think he’d be able to do that to Premier League defenders.“He needs to keep doing what he’s doing. He listens to game-plans and tries to understand the different roles he can play which will be important for his development.
“Of course, Adam is away on international duty for the next two games but when he comes back, we’ll continue to work with him and make him a better player.”

Message to Newcastle : What were you thinking of sending a wet behind the ears young lad here to us ? He can't run,all his goals have been lucky,he's as slow as a constipated sloth,us fans can't stand him,and he gets booed every game. But look we'll do you a favour and we'll keep him till the end of the season and try and get something out of him okay ? Yes we are charitable like that here at Coventry,we will look after him as best as we can which isn't easy having to get him out of night clubs every night though ! So get back to us at the end of this campaign ,and who knows we may even be playing you next season in the Championship ?

Absoloutly correct! its the support that he gets helps him score goals however he does have a skill set that will glean him goals without help, he will become one of the greats in the game if looked after carefully

How many star English strikers are there in the Premier League? With so many foreign managers having a low opinion of English talent, it will be difficult for him to get a starting spot. Maybe he will make it with a lower-half club but I cannot see him ending up at one of the top teams unless he really sets the league on fire.

Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren has revealed to the Newcastle Chronicle that he has no plans to recall Adam Armstrong from his loan spell at Coventry City.

The 18-year-old has hit in eight goals in nine matches since joining the Sky Blues and Tony Mowbray has admitted he fears losing the Geordie unless the Magpies pick up their Premier League form.

However, when asked if he would recall Armstrong to solve his side's goal-scoring concerns, McClaren said:“No, no, not yet. He’s better getting football and he’s at a good place to do that.”

Instead he is happy to keep tabs on the England Youth international rather than bring him back to St James' Park.


He added: “I have spoken to Tony Mowbray and he does like him. He set off like a house on fire after going there. He is in good hands at Coventry with Tony.

“I am delighted he’s got recognised for his performances.”

Yes, and then somehow we'd gone before the Fleetwood win to being a team who relied too heavily on him. Yet another good week in the Sky Blue Bipolar foundation.

Armstrong will be here all season IF he wants to, it'll be down to him if he stays here or chances his arm a league higher for 6 months, hopefully by January we will be clear at the top and he fancies a league winners medal in his pocket, he won't be getting many of them at Newcastle !!

Also you have to remember, those 2 games were when we'd just lost Maddison and it took us a couple of games or so to re-adjust afterwards.

He was very little threat in 2 games, but that wasn't in anyway down to his inability.

Massively unrealistic. We will have one of the lowest budgets in the league

That would be like saying Wilson won't score in the Championship........or the Prem. Or saying that Clarke won't score many goals this season.

Armstrong is skillful enough to score goals in the Prem. The better the side he would play in the better he would do. Yes with more games he should improve. But he certainly doesn't lack confidence.

Wilson was 22 when he made the step up though, not an 18 year old kid. He wasn't very expierinced granted, but mentally he was a lot more mature. He's not as good as the three strikers Newcastle have upfront at the moment, and to be honest he's not really anywhere close

Have to agree with Astute. Wilson wouldn't be out of place in many top teams in the Prem (when he returns and is match fit), and I can see some bigger clubs coming in for him.

He's doing all the things you say in the third tier of English football, there's a huge gap between league 1 and the Prem.

And I can tell he's not ready for the Prem by his all round game, he gets away with it at this level. He wouldn't get away with it in the PL. eventually he will ply his trade there, he's just not ready yet, in my opinion.
