Studied the game as it went on yesterday and our present formation imo The difference between before xmas and now is simply Ryan Kent or should I say the lack of a Ryan Kent, his end product wasn't there enough granted which let him down but the presence of another winger with pace stretched the opposition and gave options and width for our midfield to provide passes. What's happening now is teams are pressing high pushing is us deeper and without the threat of pace we have little space to play and we have to play a lot deeper. An answer ? I don't think is within our squad at the moment Mowbray has tracked a couple to replace Kent but now seems to be saying he's shelved that idea that's a concern. With only two days to go until the window closes I'm not convinced Mowbray will change things to be honest

I agree. I was always quite critical of Kent, but we have missed that ability to dribble and take players on. The other one who can obviously do that is Murphy, but he is completely out of form.

As you say, that was TM's plan but now it is seemingly shelved.

Big concern.

Yes we do miss Kent at home I'm sure TM would love him as an option.

But RCC, Bigi, Hunt, and Ramage have just been plain rubbish. The Form of JOB has been very concerning too.

As you say we wont be winning many more But I'm sure once Martin, and Fleck are back, everything will be fine. We will make play offs.

Murphy's loss of form seems to go hand in glove with the loss of width on the other flank. Fans have to remember he is still relatively inexperienced and it shows, also now our only pacey wide player opponents can do a number on him and do so. Also Bigiriamma comes in for some stick but he has a lot less passing options than Fleck had early on in the season

I agree the players you mention aren't playing well but the outfield players are being squashed into small areas and stifled due to lack of width on both flanks and we create very little, how many shots did we have on target ? I made it three including the penalty and that's a trend from Xmas excluding the Crewe game , no shots, no goals means no wins. As for Ramage he is there to defend that means get headers in and boot the ball clear, not try and be the next Franz Beckenbaur

In fairness to Mowbray having to work with the meagre funds sisu allow him is very difficult having to
mix and match loans and short term contracts a bloody headache, they won't all come off. Far too many of our squad are on short contracts.

Agree that we need another winger. As Murphy right now is in an alarming state of form.

Unfortunately Mogga said he won't be getting a winger. He said a centre back and striker is a priority.

He isn't playing Murphy as a winger though

I agree with him to be fair. We have plenty of options for the 3 behind the striker. A bit extra pace would be nice to have (the Dutch lad he was looking at seemed to fill that criteria) but think solidity at the back is more of a pressing need. Striker also probably ahead of winger on priority list but would put pacey winger just behind that.

We need some height in the team, that was about the biggest issue yesterday. So striker and defender need to be of the taller variety. I'm not sure we won a header until Rose came on (he looked useful).

We have done well in bringing in a higher level of players in Armstrong, Murphy, Turner, Cole, Kent and Bigi that is the draw of TM. Signing players from Premiership clubs would normally get us all licking our lips with glee and for a while our tongues were at the ready, its already been a massive season for Armstrong and Murphy, they have been sent out to gain experience which I am sure they have but now its time to dig in they don't have the physical presence or maybe experience, whereas Turner and Cole were coming on the back of injuries and trying to get fit, Cole still has a part to play for us but its a shame that Turner got injured, obviously Kent got recalled to clean boots at Scouse land and Bigi just doesn't really seem to have taken in how to be a prem player... all these players though have come here for a reason THEY AINT GOOD ENOUGH for their parent clubs at this moment in time ...hence we now have them!!
Its a big ask for the young lads to play consistently for a season but they have done well for us its the old heads that should be leading by example but if yesterdays debacle is anything to go by god help us if TM goes out and gets some more has beens so if there isn't anything out there of quality I am with TM don't buy shit ...we have plenty of that atm wait for the loan window and inject some youthful exuberance into the team

The big difference with our downturn in form for me is when we lost Ben Turner. Big Centre Half for me is essential.

That said, I'd also consider targeting a left back and allow Stokes to move back into the centre. Thought we looked much better the few games he played there but not convinced by Haynes.

I was almost driven to despair, yesterday, over the lack of width and a desire to get balls in across the pen area (along the ground).

How are we on loans at the moment? Think we only have one space left that would allow all to be in matchday squad at the same time. Or is it 2?

Is it only Armstrong, Murphy & Bigi on loan at the moment or am I missing someone obvious?

I disagree with some of this. IMO, teams have been pressing us high all season, but what they are now doing is defending deeper so there's little space in behind to use Armstrongs pace, and packing the midfield so we can't play through them.

We do miss Kent or someone of his ilk because he has the ability to go past people and take them out of the game.

When you look back at our goals from the time Kent was here the majority of them were from teams overcommitting, and us winning the ball and hitting them on the break. But teams aren't doing that now.

I have no idea why Mowbray played and persisted with Murphy in the no. 10 role when it clearly wasn't working. He's a knock and run dribbler he needs space to run into, and there was no space in the middle.

So I do agree we need another winger, we should never have signed hunt.

Meagre funds what a load of crap!! As Grendel has said name many other league one squads which have as good an overall
squad/wages with signings and loans thrown in - Wigan/Sheff Utd maybe the rest no!

I think Mowbray has done well with his loan signings this season compared to some previous managers. He has been fortunate that a few have come off but players like Armstrong are simply not always available for loan. Loans are always a bit of a lottery so Mowbray can't get lucky every time, no matter how good a judge of player he is.

It seems that every season there is one team that set the pace early and fall away, just as one always seems to make a late surge for the play-offs. It is worrying that a couple of Mowbray's teams in the past have faded badly. I just hope we can at least sort out this slump quickly as to miss out on a top 6 finish now would be a huge disappointment.
