Yeah, I certainly seem to be in the minority on that opinion Wingy. Maybe i'm expecting too much of them. I just thought that their play in the final third was a bit amatuerish.
I remember lots of simple passes down the wings by them being sliced out of play which i'd never seen so much of in a professional game.
I hope the rest of the league play at their level.
I came away feeling like we'd lost, but if we beat Sheff Utd (which I don't think we will) then i'll forgive yesterday.
I'd go with you on this Rich, I didn't think their play was particularly good. It was alright. Didn't think it was better than us, which some would suggest.
Thorn has built a squad specifically designed for hoofball. Why else was pretty much all his signings over 6ft?
Elliott has been a MASSIVE and I mean MASSIVE poor choice. Any striker who consistently scores less than 1 in 10 is NOT a player for this league.
I just cannot honestly see where the goals required are going to come from to stay up yet alone challenge. Even if Cody gets 20+ (which I have doubts but give the benefit of the doubt); even to survive in this league a team is going to need 65 goals, with a +25 goal tally (approx). Where are the other 40 goals coming from? Certainly not fleck, Elliott, Sheffers, Ball or indeed any other players.
What if Cody is injured? What if he has ANOTHER poor season? It's NOT impossible!
Thorn has taken a very high rich strategy. Yeovuil have always been at the lower end of this league, and they outplayed city in both possession and shots on goal.
Whilst Yeovil missed their chances other teams will not. And at this rate, it wouldn't take very long before they are propping up the league for the SECOND time under Thorn.
As a man I like Thorm, but I also like my grandad, but I wouldn't expect him to run Coventry city either!
Considering his time in and around football, surely Thorn should have picked up SOME tactical appreciation?
There is a reason why since retiring in 1998 he NEVER tried to be a manager - he himself knew he didn't have it in him. Not everyone does after all!
Unfortunately he is dragging the team down with him.
As a scout you can tell after a few games if someone is up to it or not (in most cases just one). So the argument that you need more games just doesn't fly for me - bearing in mind he had an entire season!
No sorry but Thorn has had his chances, and has had more than his fair share of support. Now its time to draw a line on the least successful managerial career in the history of Cov City, and either promote from within, or obtain a manager who knows what he is doing.
Thorn MUST go before too much damage is done. We can recover from 1 or 2, but 10? or worse 20? Very difficult for ANYONE!
He's like a politician. What he says is just about correct apart from dealing with most stuff that came in, as I think we were pretty poor when the ball was put into the box. What he doesn't say is that when you take out the 20 minutes of the game where we showed up, the other 70 minutes were totally dominated by Yeovil and we almost kicked as many balls out the ground as had shots on goal. We seemed to be hoping for just one moment of inspiration to get the win, whereas Yeovil were applying all the pressure. I know which one is more likely to give a good result most of the time.

Sorry, stopped reading after the first two points but had to comment on them. All of his signings are over 6 foot so we can play hoofball?!? It's so we can defend as well as attack from crosses/set peices for example. Brown, Kilbane, Edge, Malaga? When the hell would we be hoofing the ball up to them???
And Elliott has been played out wide by Hearts last season a lot. Thorn has also deployed him at the tip of the diamond so he may prove to be a useful squad player that adds something to a team that might be missing, such as energy and clever movement? To write him off after about 30 mins of competitive football is rediculously.
Sorry, finished reading that post and also just read your comment about getting rid and maybe promoting within??? Is that not what we did with Thorn??? How does anyone know of they are a good manager until they do it?
