I always thought tense games improved the atmosphere. It was completely flat against Rotherham and you won't find a more comfortable home game than that one.The way our games are going doesn't help either, there have been very few times we've taken comfortable leads and been able to enjoy the matches, it's felt like constant tension recently.
The majority of it is just expectations vs results. This looks likely to be the first full season under Robins in which we don't finish in a higher league position than the previous.

Tense games like Leicester do, high stakes but we’re not necessarily expecting to win.I always thought tense games improved the atmosphere. It was completely flat against Rotherham and you won't find a more comfortable home game than that one.
They've already said they aim to sell STs there, if they do they will only be closing it for cup games where we're obliged to give a bigger allocation. The whole sitting down vs standing up argument is bollocks anyway.
Some people want to stand and sing which is fine.
Some people want to sit or have to sit which is fine.
It is also stupid to say people sitting down create as much atmosphere as those standing up. This is bollocks and at any ground the main atmosphere mostly in areas that have higher levels of standing. It's how it is.
The issue seems to me to be that mainly these areas have gone on sale a long time after the rest of the ground which means to people who want to create an atmosphere have already brought tickets so these fill have people who are more casual observers.
The area in the south stand is unlikely to be open every game next season as the club want the option of a0 increasing away allocations if needed to bring in more money if we aren't selling out and b) closing it for some games so they can reduce stewarding cists etc. if the demand isn't there.
When it is open the club should try and promote it as an "atmosphere" area allowing fans who just want to sit to purchase elsewhere. This happens at places like United and Liverpool.
Also I wouldn't recommend bring little kids there against Leeds.
I don’t see how you can expect to generate a ton of atmosphere from an area that’s only occasionally on sale, full of people who only occasionally attend. When it is open the club should try and promote it as an "atmosphere" area allowing fans who just want to sit to purchase elsewhere.
for the 100th time they are planning to sell STs there next yearI don’t see how you can expect to generate a ton of atmosphere from an area that’s only occasionally on sale, full of people who only occasionally attend.
I know, I’m referring to DOD’s specific plan, which is for an area that isn’t open to home fans for every game.for the 100th time they are planning to sell STs there next year
NEWS: Sky Blues fans to be in South Stand for all remaining home games
Following the away end configuration trial against Preston North End, Coventry City will be continuing to trial the new configuration of the South Stand between now and the end of the season for all remaining home fixtures.www.ccfc.co.uk
The only will if it will be a financial success. There is a good chance that when Season tickets go on sale that area is "delayed" untilthey see how take up is.They've already said they aim to sell STs there, if they do they will only be closing it for cup games where we're obliged to give a bigger allocation.
Agreed about the atmosphere area. Market it that way from the start. Maybe even make it 16+ or something to dissuade families from buying there.
You attempt to by advertising it as being an an area aimed at that and see who you attract inI don’t see how you can expect to generate a ton of atmosphere from an area that’s only occasionally on sale, full of people who only occasionally attend.
Not ideal but plenty of clubs do it and manage it. Season ticket holders just get moved. As long as we don't sell more than 22,000 STs it shouldn't be a problem. Also they don't seam to have taken into account that if we play a home FA cup game we have to give up to 15% of the stadium which is more than the 2000 tickets on the current configuration gives and thus the possibility of someone not being able to buy their "season ticket" seats for a home cup game which isn't ideal.
Just because they say something doesn't mean it will happen, look at the safe standing consultation.

It never really started, it got as far as a generic do you like standing email and that is it and has been paused. Not ideal but plenty of clubs do it and manage it. Season ticket holders just get moved. As long as we don't sell more than 22,000 STs it shouldn't be a problem.
Safe standing consultation is still ongoing?
You do if you’re @Earlsdon_Skyblue1
We should bring Kick it for a Ticket back but re-brand it Whack it for a Packet.
I think the only way to retain atmosphere but grow home capacity is by keeping things as it is but sell block 1-9 to home fans or move away fans into the corner and singers corner moves to block 10-12. Clearly our corner needs to be close to/in the eye line of away fans to have any impact.

How many teams are bringing 4500 away fans? If we're playing well we'll sell more tickets if they're home seats than if they're away. Yesterday there were almost 27,000 home fans for a game against a fairly unglamorous opponent. They anticipate it.
Once Doug has run through the numbers, it will change. There is absolutely no way he wants to lose an additional 2000 away fans just to have a thousand or so scattered behind the goal.
We should have a Pop Idols type situation. If you want to sit in singers corner or the new seats they need to audition.
Think so!Also unless my memory is getting bad didn't they fuck it off half through the season last time they had season tickets in there?
I thought that. But eventually it would happen. We exceeded all expectations last season and if we don't go up this season a few will say Robins has failed. The majority of it is just expectations vs results. This looks likely to be the first full season under Robins in which we don't finish in a higher league position than the previous.

They are. Our support will drop off a lot quicker than Leicester, Forest etc if we have a couple of poor seasons. That's a fact. Our support has never had a big hardcore following.Because attendances are growing.
We’re in a Cup semi final
Most of us believe next season we have a serious chance.
Our fans aren’t fickle. They are the same as 90% of other clubs.
We don't need a drummer.Got to say, this guy does some great stuff for the atmosphere at times but comes across as a right whiny bitch on Twitter.

Chants are always started by a few and then they grow. It's not rocket science. This bloke states the bleedin obvious.
Having 2 blocks of prawn sandwich eaters between the corner and the away fans has a detrimental impact on the atmosphere and anyone who disagrees hasn’t got a clue. Cardiff probably sang about us and the lack of atmosphere more than they did their own team today. They were also baiting us with songs about Wales/England and being sheep shaggers all game, and yet we didn’t respond once. Usually we can’t stop singing about the away fans.
2500 can fit in half that. So we're only losing out on 500 tickets if they would bring 3000, and I'd bet on us to sell more than 500 there. If we were a solid top 6/challenging for autos it would be well worth it, would be near sold out every week.Totally dependent on who goes up/down, ticket prices and TV schedule day/evening fixtures...
Leeds
Leicester
Ipswich
Southampton
Birmingham
Sheffield Wednesday
Derby
Pompey
Everton
Sheffield United
Forest
West Brom
Sunderland
Stoke
QPR
All these sides have brought over 3000 to us in the past. Most above would bring 4500 on a Saturday 3pm. West Brom brought a poor numbers this season and Stoke have only brought 2500-3000 recently because of the £37 tickets. Plymouth would have brought 3000 had it been a Saturday. Even Norwich have brought 3000 this year I believe.

Atmospheres are always going to be better when exceeding expectations, they are going to be even higher next year.
As for opening the blocks next season for ST's, the club are going to have to be smart about it. We could end up people moving there because they want to be closer the the atmosphere, behind the goal but expecting to sit down.
Just get the naught corner to move over to behind the goal and next to the away fans next season.
