We've got 4 first team centre halves and two younger ones pushing. If we sign another first team centre half it'll be because one of the first teamers is going out.
I think it's fairly likely that at least one of Drysdale or Williams will be loaned out this season. Both are at the stage of their development now where they're more than capable of playing consistently at a lower league club. Something that would probably benefit them far more than playing the majority of the season in the U23s. Last season both were sent out on loan (Williams, Yoevil) and (Drysdale, Solihull Moors) so it wouldn't be all that surprising if Robins chose to do this once again in order to further their progress.
Reading his comments from the CT last week, Robins has indicated that he's looking to add to the defensive department but I doubt it would be a first-team CB option either. After being linked with Sheaf and Otasowie, it's clear that we're looking at a certain mould of CDM who can play in midfield as well as comfortably at CB, but it may be that he's looking to add further depth.
One thing nobody has really touched on in fairness to Baka is his tremendous work rate. You might not always bring him on with 15 to go needing a goal (yes I realise he's a striker), but with a goal lead to defend and 15 to go, hell run defenders all over the place.
It's a fair point and is an option off the bench to help defend a lead but are we going to be likely to spend most of next season looking to defend a lead late on or to score? I'd suggest the latter and If we're looking for a goal Max would arguably be the better option as he's got that genius goal in him, or even Ponti, of the current options. We really could do with a new starter to drop Godden to the bench or a promising young prospect on loan to bring off it.
Really like Baka. Got height, pace, strength, powerful shot, great attitude.
Scoring record in terms on actual minutes on the pitch is OK.
Think his issues are mostly mental IMO, plays within himself too much and in our set up isn’t as good a finisher as Godden so will need more chances to score the same amount, but I think when he’s on the pitch he does more work for the team than Godden chasing down defenders and the like.
You don't want to slag one of our own players, so you start a thread asking if anyone sees anything positive in him. A month before the season has started.
That's true about them being training games but Robins will be concerned at the lack of chances created
The offside goal by Matty Godden against Rangers was the best move and his run for the penalty was decent
Baka is playing too deep to be a goal threat at the moment
Some interesting views of others opinions apart from the petty point scoring argument going on !
My take on Baka, and this is my opinion and not slagging the guy, he does a lot of running without seemingly getting anywhere at times and seems lost also at times, having said that when it seems he has fire in his belly (which is less often than not) he puts in some great ball winning tackles but more often than not this is usually chasing back into midfield, a great attribute to have if he is worrying defenders but sadly he doesnt seem to do this very often.
I can see the guy is trying but if this makes sense it doesnt come naturally to him but at least we cannot fault him for the effort.
Sadly I never thought he was good enough for League 1 and being in the Championship now is probably a step too far against better defenders... we will see and good luck to him ...Go Go Baka prove us wrong
