I think one of the biggest issues we’ve had this year is balance on the right hand side. The lack of Dabo and also Dacosta has consistently meant we’ve played players out of position in the RWB area. Sam is uncomfortable there, Pask was a car crash and a lot of our goals being conceded seem to come down that side.

If Dabo or Dacosta can come back soon 100% fit the balance of our shape will come back.

It’s be no means the only issue, but important to resolve after the international break.

Our main thrust of attack is to get the wing-backs high up the pitch - can't do it with a centre back or left footer on the right unfortunately. McCallum is never going to take his man on down the outside, checks inside every time which completely nullifies his attacking threat.

This is McCallum's heat map for today:

By contrast this is Giles's,
Got the ball on 20 more occasions & involved so much further forward:

Sam has bravely tried to make the best of it out there in fairness but yes hopefully Dabo at least will be back in good time.

Sam's done well but today struggled in the second half. I mean, sema is a decent player with international pedigree and Sam's playing on the oppo flank

Much of a muchness if DaCosta still isn't fit and Pask clearly isn't rated

But the reason the wing backs aren't as high is because we were being exploited in the space behind them. It's swings and roundabouts. Of course with the extra CB it should be they can come across and deal with it, but in order for them to have the time to get across before the attacker can get the ball the WB has to stay reasonably close to the defence. You say how much more Giles was involved and further forward. But you seem to be forgetting than in earlier matches teams have got in behind him and exploited his flank. Which considering we've been playing people out of position on the opposite side almost all season suggests they see that weakness.

Otherwise the CB are all pulled across, there is no full back on the opposite side to fill the gap and there'll be a gap at the far post for them to exploit. Or even worse the other CB's retain their position and leave a space in the centre.

Now for bigger clubs with much better players they can get away with that because they have so much ability and possession the other team don't have it enough to be able to exploit ir. We're not in that position. We've got players that are on the whole average to just below average in this league, so we're going to likely have at least our fair share of defending to do. Which means opposition will have opportunities to exploit this weakness.

Our goalscoring isn't that bad, despite the fact we've also missed some gilt edged chances. Our big problem is how many go in at the other end and although there have been far too many from sloppy mistakes it's not as simple as "push the wingbacks up".

Our goal scoring will be better once we get Godden & Walker together which should be the next game Max isn’t a clinical striker of them chances he’s had fall to Godden or walker there goals

They're both more clinical, I'm just not sure if those two as a partnership will be creating the same amount of chances. They may be too similar rather than complimentary.

Hopefully it'll work as a pairing.

Walker’s goal yesterday was a great finish, hopefully him and Godden together will work and they’ll complement each other.

That has to be our 2 up front max off the bench if needed

McCallum was still exploited in behind time & again yesterday, this is because he's positionally not as proficient on his opposite side - understandably so.

There should always be a full back on the opposite side defensively unless it's a rapid counter attack such as from an error like Biamou's on Wednesday.
A properly executed wing back system defensively sees the wing-back whose side the attack comes from engage the ball carrier & the opposite side wing-back tuck in to almost make a back 4 with the 3 CBs.

Watford didn't dominate possession either, they edged it at best 53%-47%

Unless you suggest we play a flat 4 at the back the wing-backs absolutely have to get forward.

That's all kind of bye the bye though, we know the strengths & weaknesses of the system - the point was just how much we miss Dabo/Dacosta or simply a natural player in that position.

It's not McCallum's fault, same as it wasn't Pask's but this is not normal:

I'd sooner have a fit Pask there, or even that Blaine Rowe/Jack Burroughs than an unfit Da Costa - though he'll never get up to speed without playing, Let's not ruin Fankaty's health/body through rushing him back.

Biamou has been better than expected. However, he hasn’t made the most of his chances so far. In contrast, Walker and Gooden will take their chances more often than not.

I do think we can turn things around, but we just have to stop killing ourselves. Too many penalties conceded and too many soft set piece goals. We’re our own worst enemy at the minute.

Hamer’s was A great finish too. I initially thought he had headed it hard hoping for a break but watching the relay he spotted Foster out of position. Great goal.

Yeah he’s a fantastic buy, great goal vs Forest too - both him and Sheaf are excellent
