Watched the first half of the game, then had this peculiar thought...."I wonder how much time is actually spent with the ball 'in play' meaning stop the clock for throw ins, corners, goal kicks etc.."

So I got my trusty stop-watch out ( I know , I've got too much time on my hands) and timed the second half, with some absolutely amazing results. I've done my best on this as the cameras did not follow the ball when it weas stooped play, so i had to rely on the noise coming from the crowd.

How long would you guess the ball was in play? You will have noticed the ref didn't add any time on at all in the 2nd half. (scroll down for the answer)

Keep going!

22 minutes 38 seconds....WOW. I bet you were surprised, eh

This is low but even in a 'normal' game I've seen that it is usually somewhere around the one hour mark. With this in mind, it would be surely more sensible to make the rule one hour in polay so a game could last 60 minutes in the unlikely event that it is never kicked out, there are no goals throw ins corners free kicks injuries or substitutions but equally it could last 3 hours. It would cut out the time wasting antics and everyone in the ground would be completely aware of how much time was left with it monitored by the 4th official and displayed on the scoreboard. No Fergie time and no Warnock teams feigning injury.

You'll be proposing honesty, realistic prices, and sensible business plans next.

Way too much time on you're hand's. :claping hands:

But you see, when you're retired you can do anything you want, when you want, even IF you want. It's nice to have this time on your hands...you can analyse things that you're normally too busy to do. Life gets interestinger and interestinger (I know they're not real words, but to coin a phrase)

Seemed to me the Barca ballboys were deliberately throwing extra balls on the pitch to cause more stoppages. Seems like a FIFA/UEFA conspiracy against Mourinho/pro Barca, especially considering the red card in the first leg. Reminds me of the dreadful decisions against Chelski in last year's competition.

i am impressed you had the time to do this!!!

Thanks Stu. For added information I did the same yesterday with the ManU vs. Schalke 2nd half. It was better, at 28:37 but when you think the fans paid a lot of dosh for that 45 minutes worth (plus what was it, 4 mins time added on?). 21 mins went missing piddling around for various things.
