looking ahead to next season where does everyone feel his best position is ? League 2 he played right side narrow, this season he’s played centre mid I feel he’s struggled there, seems to me more of a free role type player but with Bright rumoured to be signing in that role where do we see bayliss fitting in ?

Central midfield for me. Will go the furthest of our current squad no doubt.

Have you watched him this season much ? For me his positional awareness is awful he’s not strong enough in there I don’t feel
Mate.Shipley coming in for him allowed Kelly to share the work load no coincidence Kelly’s performances have been better.

Anywhere he wants.
By far our most creative player, great vision.

Yes ahead of Bright who I also think is a very good player.
Bayliss will play at a higher level that Bright will.
We will see.

There’s no reason I’d put Bayliss back in for Shipley if we had more games left. Shipley has been brilliant.

Have to agree with this. Have to step away from the bias, Bayliss isn’t a patch on Bright.

I think we could take Eden Hazard on loan and people would say our own players were better tbh. Life seems easier without sky blue tinted goggles.

Bright and Bayliss are quite different players who play in the same position.

Mught go against a lot on here, however, I personally think Bayliss, if he kicks on, could still end up the better all round player. He could learn from Bright taking the game by the scruff of the neck though (confidence/drive to get involved more)

Needs a free role like Brights had but then the belief to dictate the game.

Bright is a county mile ahead of Bayliss. I don’t have the stats but Bright must have more goals and assists whilst playing half the amount of games.

Nothing against Bayliss, I think he will go on to have a decent Championship (no I don’t think prem) career.

Played in very different roles this season (even though both are probably best just behind the forwards). Also not saying that Bright hasn’t been better this season, agree, his stats will prove that, just think Bayliss will kick on and if he does could become a better all round player

I don't find it an easy comparison to make given they've been played in different positions all season. I've seen Bayliss play some absolutely fantastic passes but Bright has more flair and ability to move in tight spaces.

Do we think bayliss will start next season next to Liam Kelly centre midfield then maybe ?

I just can’t see it Shipley has even showed up What bayliss struggled with I think we will have another Liam Kelly type player in there with bright as the number 10

He’s struggled a bit in a midfield two this season but he’s still learning so who knows. When he’s at his best, Bayliss is great at driving forward with the ball/got good vision so hope he can. If Bright stays (would be great but still a long shot) then it will be hard for Bayliss to get in further up the pitch

Would snap their hand of for that although I think derby not coming back in for him was telling.

Bayliss came into the side in the middle of last season out of nowhere and played virtually every game, then was away in the summer with the U19s if I recall correctly. This season he moved to the deep lying CM role and I think doing a lot of Doyle's running early in the season was too much for him. Along with the other first full seasoners, Sterling and Thomas, have found it hard to keep their levels up.

Bayliss though has been the only genuine box to box midfielder in the team this season until Shipley's late cameo and that was during the period when we switched from the intial 4-2-3-1 to the double 6 4-4-2. I think he'll be much the better next year for the extended summer break he's getting now and a bit of work in the gym on his core strength so he's not quite so easy to knock around.

I like Shipley, but if it's a choice out of the two Bayliss plays every time.

No positional awareness is such a lazy comment. It’s said because someone wants to try and win an argument and for the most part it’s not true. The problem is you want Bayliss to be more the sort of CM you’d want to see, and he’s not. Nothing to do with positional awareness.

Second season always a tough one, Shipley for example struggled at times early on this year but the last two months and in his preferred position has shone to be honest, same will happen with Bayliss I believe who hasn’t been crap but certainly not as good as last season, big question though could Bayliss, Bright and Shipley play together ?

Must be just my seven home games which were mostly poor but he hardly had a decent game in any of them .

Don't think Bayliss has had many good games this season.

BUT he is clearly the more talented of the two.

I would be tempted to use a midfield 3 and have a fluid 4-3-3

-----New GK-------
New RB- Rose/Davies-Hyam-Mason
---Bayliss-Kelly-Shipley
--Bright(Hopefully)-Hiwula-New winger/striker

Don't think Bayliss has been good enough from what I have seen at CM in a two, but a three might suit him, and give him a bit more license going forward.

i think being away with England and then playing a lot of games has taken its toll on him, no doubt he is a good player and will go on to play at a higher level, I think both him and Sterling have suffered a bit towards the end of the season due to being knakered. hopefully with his season finishing early it might be a good thing for us next season.

Positional awareness is leaving gaps for Kelly to cover his & bayliss slot, not tracking runners etc

Not for me mate it’s either bayliss or bright with 2 solid centre midfielders behind them bright would struggle at centre midfield also I feel probably worse than bayliss tbh but bright in the number 10 role is way ahead

Problem playing bright not central is we lose the creativity, vision etc he brings the team mate

That midfield three looked to be working in the first half against Walsall away and certainly suits Bayliss and Shipley. If bright doesn’t stay it might be worth looking at again.

We don't have to lose the creativity if it's fluid. Like under Mowbray, if you can have the front 3 interchanging then it can work a treat. It depends on the intelligence of the players of course, but that depending, it means you get the best of both worlds. And it will probably suit Bright having a more free role.

Having seen Bayliss play a a lot this season I think he's been a burden on our midfield most of the time.

He's a very talented player but I don't think central midfield is the best place for him. Maybe in a 4-3-3 as one poster put above.

Shipley has done pretty well since he came in but that difference has looked massive on our midfield and particularly Kelly. I think tiredness probably is an issue, but that excuse can't be used for everything.
