According to Andy Turner, Brentford are lining up a £1.5m bid for Ben Stevenson.

Interesting times ahead. I think that's a good offer personally but I'd try and get £2m.

That's not a bad offer, I read earlier Derby bid £2.5 mill for Lansbury.

Would try for 2 if possible though.

Good offer, though I think he is better than Maddison.

This Stevenson being sold is guaranteed, hopefully we just hold on long enough to let a mini bidding war develop... oh and him to score another 25 yarder tomorrow to add on a extra 500k

Lansbury is out of contract this summer. Hardly a comparison to a player on a 4 year deal.

That means jack though, Pete. I agree, but unfortunately it is irrelevant in this modern day and age.

Hadn't he already been sold for £800K to someone else last week?

He's a good player but some of these kids need to realise that when they're so young a couple of years of regular first team football is better for them in the long term.

why do we need experienced players to sign to help the young players in the squad if we sell all the young players anyway ?

It is for us. I'm not sure that other clubs let their best players go so easily and so quickly. Is this the optimum moment for him to leave when he has really moved us on as far as he can and where his value is the highest that we can get it to? I don't think so. Also how much of the fee will realistically be given to Slade? If it is simply to make sure Sisu don't lose money then the team have lost a very good player for little or no gain.

Unfortunately like Maddison we will never know how good or bad a player he might have been for us however £2 million for an untried youngster is a lot of money and if Slade was only given 1/2 it would get us some very good 1st division players

Sell for 2m. Give RS half a million and he could do some proper damage

If Slade was given a million to spend I would agree. Would a million not be enough, added to existing budget, to build a promotion team?

I kind of expected it but we will really need to wheel and deal going forward now.

We are at the bottom of a relegation battle, and have (probably) just sold our best two players on the opening day of the transfer window.

    Step forward Mr Slade...

I used to be really bothered what we sold players for as we used to re-invest some of it no it goes into a black hole, don't forget it will be undisclosed (something I believe should be banned).

If the money meant these owners would go then I would hope for loads but it seems the more they get the longer they stop.

Don't want him back on loan either but hope he has a good career elsewhere.

Slade would never get £1m from a £2m sale.

If the move is for £1.5m the amount upfront would be more like £500k rising to £1.5m.

Slade would be lucky to get £150k from that.

But apparently rumour is we are in the race for Jay Simpson and we need cash for that. Not sure how much he would leave Orient for considering he's out of contract in the summer.

    We have to be realistic.

I think £250,000 from a £2m sale would be very good. This is is in terms of us as Coventry City and Sisu as owners .

You do realize the decision is not down to the players when they are under contract? If a club decides to sell a player, the player has very little choice in the matter.

He can say no, but then the club can of course make things difficult for him if they so wish.

£1.5 million ? So with the million projected profit Fishers been on about and now being cash flow positive that's 2.5 million in the kitty, can't be bad.

So the selling club agrees personal terms for the player being sold?

No but when the club tells the player a bid has been accepted, i don't think the player has much of an option other than to negotiate his next contract with the buying club.

If the player is lucky he will have more than one option of club but the outcome no matter who will be the same, the player will be gone. As for this case I don't know if the OP is true, but I think we all know he is the player with the highest value within the squad and one most knew would probably be sold to balance the books.

No player has to move if he is under contract. That is what contracts are for. But a lot of the time it means that they move to a better club and get paid more. It secures their future more. And it can also mean that they are moving to somewhere that wants them more. That is why someone is willing to pay money for them. But they can't be forced to move. If a club makes it difficult for them all they have to do is sit there and take the money. Not good for them or their club.

Not always best though. He needs to be where he will improve the most. Playing in a shite team isn't as good as playing with and against better players. So if he goes to a better club and gets game time it would be good for him. If he goes and just sits on the bench he would be better off staying and learning his trade.

Ben Stevenson, age 19, appearances 14. Goals 2.
If this happens it is selling the family silver at half price.

The thing is, will he be playing? For Bigi in playing terms his move was a disaster. Even with Maddison, it does not seem as if all has gone to plan. Norwich signed him on a 3 and a half year contract. The first 6 months spent here. The next year spent in Scotland. Yes he playing but at a standard that is probably not much higher than here. What happens next year to him if Norwich still don't feel he will push for their first team. If they were promoted I couldn't see him in their first team. I am not sure what Norwich get from this deal.

Norwich hope they have picked up a player for little money that they can sell on, he is probably costing them little in wages currently and they maybe getting a loan fee. If they get promoted and he is no use with the money they would have they wouldn't even notice and they could sell him on to another championship club.
