In terms of an “away” performance , Crewe at the Ricoh in the jpt semi? We absolutely battered them for 89 minutes and they had one counter attack and scored. Was left utterly bamboozled how we lost that....
SillettNot helped by Gould throwing a couple of youngsters into the side for 'experience.'
Did well to score three goals in 1 counter! In terms of an “away” performance , Crewe at the Ricoh in the jpt semi? We absolutely battered them for 89 minutes and they had one counter attack and scored. Was left utterly bamboozled how we lost that....
If it weren’t the goalkeeper (Phillips?) it was the post - most frustrating game ever - was more one sided than the Tranmere game a few weeks back and we lost 3-0In terms of an “away” performance , Crewe at the Ricoh in the jpt semi? Special mention also to a young Gazza shortly after he broke into the Newcastle team. Obvious to anyone there that he was going to be a very big player.
It was worse they had 3 counter attacks and scored 3
Remember that also. I think we won 4-0 or 4-1 because the rest of their team were awful. along the same lines, I remember Ginola absolutely bossing a game for Spurs, maybe 98. Think we won again 4-1 or similar.Seem to remember a very young Gareth Bale running the show from LB against us for Southampton.
Might have been the first few years at the Ricoh and not HR though. Memory fails me.
The GK was Chris Dunn. What a fucking shithouse he was that night! If it weren’t the goalkeeper (Phillips?) it was the post - most frustrating game ever - was more one sided than the Tranmere game a few weeks back and we lost 3-0

I meant for Crewe, their goalkeeper was phenomenal - but yeah. Our game went pear shaped as soon as Murphy went off injured. The GK was Chris Dunn. What a fucking shithouse he was that night!

Shilton, 77-78 made about 6 world class saves in a 0-0 draw
That doesn't need hindsight - it was obvious to everyone in the stadium except the team and manager! It really didn't seem like they knew it was a two-leg tie. At 0-1 we threw caution to the wind when it was totally unnecessary. Ridiculous.I meant for Crewe, their goalkeeper was phenomenal - but yeah. Our game went pear shaped as soon as Murphy went off injured.
after that game I had an irrational hatred of Crewe. I was born in 88 so to be so convinced we were going to Wembley that year and have it snatched away like that (especially after the Preston game) messed with me badly.
I’m hindsight knowing it was 2 legged, we maybe should have cut our losses and played out for the 1-0 defeat.
Was that Crewe game Robins' final game of his first spell?I meant for Crewe, their goalkeeper was phenomenal - but yeah. Our game went pear shaped as soon as Murphy went off injured.

That was going to be my pick. Klinnsman was fantastic.I remember Spurs besting us 4-0 in the 90s with Klinsmann running the show.
