Just because I had 30 mins I looked up the population of the 20 biggest cities on Wikipedia. I determined how many top flight clubs are in each city and then divided the current position in the league of the worst team in that area by the population per team - as some kind of calculation on which are the best and worst performing cities.
Hull came top, followed by Brighton and then Newcastle. We came 16th, so we are only slightly punching below our weight as we are the 13th most populated. The Wirral came last as I don't think they have any teams and their population is 331k (Liverpool is quoted separately). London came second last due to Charlton's position and the huge population in London shared 8 ways.
I cannot load a picture unless it's on the interweb so I've pasted what I can below - pretty indecipherable probably.
