The new season is getting closer and this year, we're off to some pretty special stadiums. Im really looking forward to going to Bloomfield Road and The DW, both of which have held Premier League football recently. But for this week's Cooks Question, i want to know what is the best stadium you've ever been to. For me, it would be Old Trafford. That place is fucking huge! My dad took me on the day of George Best's funeral back in 2005. The Emirates has to be up there too. But whats your view? It could be for sentimental reasons, design or atmosphere. Always liked Man City's old ground Main Road and also Evertons ground Goodison, which I always thought had more atmosphere than Anfield.

Old Trafford has always been a great place to go and get a result.

Once you get about 25000 in it I think The Ricoh is a great stadium.

I remember going to Old Trafford for the first time, 82/83 season, £2.50 to get in too. As a young lad it was pretty breathtaking seeing it for the first time. I remember the applause from the home fans rippling around the stadium and the noise seemed to be coming from everywhere. Not a good position in those days for away fans though as it rained coins for most of the game.

I also enjoyed my visits to Anfield, Maine Road and Goodison. For the Cup Final the occasion got to me and it was a fantastic atmosphere, the stadium wasn't anything special though.

For me the most amazing football stadium memory was St Andrews. First time I went there was for a night match in the 70s. Already excited going to see the sky blues away...got into ground from the dark streets outside to see the pitch below us bathed in floodlights. Absolutely magical.

This'll be controversial... But sod it! I've always liked Villa Park. It's just got that traditional look to it that I love, steeped in history and old photos of the Holte End are pretty impressive. It's just a damn damn shame about the tenants!

Best abroad I've been to is the Ajax Arena in Amsterdam but in the Uk................... 'The old Wembley', Anfield, Old Trafford, Hillsborough, Villa Park, Highbury, Maine Road............All I might add when they had large banks of terracing !

Goodison Park - good atmosphere
The Dell - uniquie old ground (never saw us win there in 7 attempts!)
Filbert St. - good when we we winning
Highbury - lovely ground (and saw us win a cuple of times)
HR on a good day. Opposing fans normally have good comments about it so can't have been bad

I hated the Dell. Remember going there when Garry Bannister signed again. The terracing was sunk into the ground and the pitch was at chest height!

Best I've been to in this country is between Goodison, the Boleyn, the Cottage and Hillsborough. Worst being Whaddon Road or the Diva at Chester.

Best abroad is either the Donbass (very sad how it is now) or Borrusia Park at Monchengladback. Worst by a long way is the San Siro.

I used to love going to Highbury...proper old school ground.
For atmosphere it has to be Hillsborough for the 87 Semi Final.
For alternatives, it is probably Madison Square Garden and the Kauffman Stadium, home of the Kansas City Royals. (which is right next to the Chiefs stadium which i never got to go to)

The best ground I have been to was Nou Camp but in terms of watching a match, Southampton vs Sunderland at St Mary's last season,first time visiting St Mary's and won 8-0!!

La Bombonera is my all time favorite. I was lucky enough to go there for a game about 5 years ago when I was traveling South America and the atmosphere there is incredible. The fans really make each game an occasion and the whole day is taken up building the atmosphere and then celebrating afterwards.

Wondering why you think San Siro is the worst? The place felt a lot older than I expected when i visited and it really is literally crumbling, but its such a unique design and thought it felt really special being there.

Obviously not in the "best" category but my favourite grounds are the little Scottish ones. I've done most of them over the years and had a great time visiting places like QoS, Cowdenbeath, Alloa, Dundee X 2, Stenhousemuir, Falkirk, etc etc.

Not technically a football stadium (although football has been/is played there sometimes) but the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm is the best stadium I've visited. It's the biggest spherical building in the world which gives a very different perspective when you’re sitting inside it. It also represents the Sun in a huge 1:20 million scale model of the Milky Way Galaxy with models of the other planets and celestial bodies being dotted all over Sweden.

In footballing terms I’d have to say St James’ park, Nothing special in terms of the stadium itself really but when its crammed full of Geordies (and they are winning) it’s a special atmosphere. Mind you it probably has more to do with my best mate being a toon fan so I’ve been dragged to a lot of Newcastle games………………..

I also really enjoy a trip to Spotland with my Dale supporting mates. Purely because it still has terraced standing.

I love the old grounds the best and you couldn't beat going to Filbert Street for a local derby.I liked Fulham's Craven Cottage which looks the same now as it did in the 70's.Also the first ever visit to Anfield in 1968 when the Kop was deafening and sent shivers down your spine !

I also disliked the Dell what a shithole that was. I went that time we needed at least a point to stay up back in the late sixties I think it was ? I was a teenager and we took thousands down there,and it took hours by coach and I recall entering the ground and saying what a dump ! But that was the exception as all other grounds back then had character.

The only ones I haven't done are the big ones; Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen, Hibs and Hearts.

The worst was going to see Meadowbank when they played at the Commonwealth stadium, about 200 there in a massive stand with a running track around the pitch. Rubbish, it was.

My favourite is Starks Park.

Back when I were a lad I was posted to Kinloss, at the weekends being the only English on my Squadron I used to get to pick were we went on the Piss and to watch the obligatory footie match, I used to pick them as much on obscurity as I could and from the ones I liked the names of from the roundup on Grandstand. Obviously I was no too popular on a freezing December afternoon in Cowdenbeath or when it was sleeting sideways in Stranrear.

Personally a huge fan of White Hart Lane and Upton Park. It is sad both will be lost in a few years.

The best stadium in England for me is Old Trafford, especially in recent years with the improved atmosphere. Sat in the Stretford End against Tottenham last season when they won 3-0. The place was absolutely rocking.

Best two stadiums for me are Old Trafford and the Emirates. Hillsborough always holds a special place in my heart as well - QF, SF, Oggy's goal! Enjoy going to many of the smaller grounds as well.

Once got invited to Anfield for a midweek European game - amazing atmosphere. Although out of the newer grounds I do like the Emirates and I did like the old Wembley went to a couple of England v Scotland games which were fun.

best stadium abroad for me was the nou camp...watched a charity game there between barcelona and bayern munich which barca won 4-1...100,000 people filled the stadium with thousands of paper aeroplanes floating down from the stands and each player welcomed onto the pitch with fireworks....fab atmosphere...worst ground i've ever visited here has to be the dell...what a shitehole that was

Has many problems. The city it's in. The area of the city it's in. The city it's in. Depressing place to be. The city it's in. Transport links. The city it's in. Seats are crap. The city it's in. The main issue though like you said it's crumbling and the minimum requirement I expect from a structure I visit is for me to not expect the roof to collapse in on me. Horrible shack of a place. Oh and the city it's in.
