If being voted player of the year means that you leave over the summer following (as seems to be the case), time for some tactical voting when it comes to the vote next year - Beavon to the player of the year methinks
Any of us, in McNulty's shoes, would have done exactly the same. It does mean we need two strikers now, as we already needed one. Time for a couple of good loanees I reckon
IS it someone that will ease the pain I'm feeling right now?Apparently if this move goes ahead there could be 2 coming in, I’ve heard the name of one but not saying yet, don’t want to get laughed at, but played Premiership last season
Suppose this is what you get when you revive someone’s faltering career these days. Zero loyalty in football.
I think if he / his agent wanted to stay here they would have signed the improved contract straight away wouldn't they? The fact it hasn't been signed kind of shows they are seeing what else is about.
Fact is, he will probably triple his wage at least and probably go a good way to setting himself and family up nicely for after he retires.
It will be a blow but I think Robins will have it in mind and have replacements lined up.
If he wants to do it, it should be done now. Not like when George Thomas pissed about last season.
All this wank about "I would do the same in his shoes" shows what a greedy, I'm alright Jack country we are. Thatcher won didn't she.
There's a fine line between greed an ambition.
Disappointing but not surprising. I felt we were always going to lose one of Bayliss or McNulty. It sounds as though it's the player that's pushing for the move, which if true, means there isn't an awful lot the club can do except try to get the best deal possible. True we could reject the bid and force him to stay another year but you run the risk of having a sulky, pissed off player disturbing the rest of the squad.
Ah yes George Thomas, I remember him. He’s earns more money watching first team football, than playing it.I think if he / his agent wanted to stay here they would have signed the improved contract straight away wouldn't they? I'm not saying I agree that loans are definitely the solution, but Armstrong worked out pretty okay didn't it? It's like me saying 'Permanent signings? We've tried that millions of times, it didnt work out.' Plenty of Prem/Championship teams loan out players that work out. It's a risk, but to be honest most signings in League One and League Two are a risk.Loanees? We've tried that millions of times, it didn't work then and wouldn't work now. We finally look to be building a team and it gets blown apart in the first window. Pathetic.

Yeah, there is but a move to the mighty Reading falls firmly into one of those camps. The justifications used here are all purely about money rather than ambition.
Do agree with that point. Unless he plays very very well for Reading they could well find themselves in league one next season anyway.Yeah, there is but a move to the mighty Reading falls firmly into one of those camps. The justifications used here are all purely about money rather than ambition.

Behave... we live In a capitalist country! I’m not Tory voter by a long shot but to criticise people for increasing their wage is rediculous. All this wank about "I would do the same in his shoes" shows what a greedy, I'm alright Jack country we are. Thatcher won didn't she.
Armstrong did not work out OK, we didn't go up and then had to try and find a replacement the next season. Let's also not forget that we barely won a game after Christmas and Armstrong barely scored either.
Didn’t want to say.Peter crouch?
Ah okay, and Armstrong is entirely to blame for that. We signed McNulty on a permanent and now have to find a replacement next season...Armstrong did not work out OK, we didn't go up and then had to try and find a replacement the next season. the feelings of resentment are understandable... as is the acceptance that he is doing what we suspect is the best for his family.
Id like to know the financials though, as I just dont buy into the theory that they will be tripling his wages or more... and if its literally for a couple of extra quid & more about the chance to play in championship then I would have hoped he gave us one more season to see if it could have been achieved together here .
the club will rise without him if he does go I suspect, and will certainly go on.. but it is a bit of a deflation after all the elation of late
A footballer's career is very short & McNulty is at his peak earning point right now
He did a great job for us last year even though a minority were giving him stick early on
I suspect Robins will have something lined up
Won't be surprised if we see a prolific, experienced striker at League 1 level comes in now
The team is full of pace in contrast to last season so we will be a big attraction for the best players at this level
He’s on what? About 2-3k here, tripling that to 10k isn’t hard in the championship. So not beyond the realms of possibilitythe feelings of resentment are understandable... as is the acceptance that he is doing what we suspect is the best for his family.
