Biggest Fan Favourite? (2 Viewers)

Looking at the team at the minute and all the signings we've made has made me realise we're lacking a fan favourite which is understandable after recent years. I was just wondering who people thought would be their biggest genuine fan favourite over the years, going back as far as you want.

I think mine would have to be Big Mo - cannot dispute he was loved!

David Speedie was and is mine , no-one has ever come close in 35 years of supporting our club

Passion personified and skill in abundance

Lloyd McGrath or Micky Gynn for me, although Speedo is up there too. Huckerby in "modern" times. Lee Hurst for that one season of fantastic midfield play alongside Stuart Robson before Bobby Gould killed his career. We haven't had a central two as good as that unit in my time supporting the club.

Have to say as well i idolised Noel Whelan , he was an enigma .His goal on a frozen pitch against Sheff Wed where he beat half their side is the best goal i have seen live .Not my favourite player but way up there as a player i loved to watch when he was on form ,how i wish he never pissed his career away

Its got to be Ian Wallace for me. My first season was 77/78 and I went up with my dad to watch the West Ham game. Wallace scored and the whole experience was magical. I remember streaming out of the ground, it was a cold November night and looking back at the floodlights. It gives me chills thinking about. I got the kit a month later for Christmas with number 8 on the back. Great memories.

Dion.

Then also Speedie, Stuart Pearce, Trevor Peake, Hutchison, Steve Hunt, Wallace and Fergie, Ernie Hunt and Ian Gibson and George Hudson.

Oggy not for me I'm sorry to say. Round by me where I used to sit in the old M&B Stand he was known as 'flapper.' Great shot stopper very poor on crosses.

Not fit to lace Bill Glazier's boots as a goalkeeper unfortunately.

When I first started it was Gary Gillespie and Garry thomspon, both good players who gave their all for the club.

Later Terry Gibson, Trevor Peake, Lloyd McGrath, and Cyrille.
Moved on to Speedie, great player and would knock the current shower into shape.

Of the modern era liked Nillson, Mo, and Whelan. I met Whelan many times and his enthusiasm for the club was brilliant.

There were many others but cant think of them off the top of my head at the moment.

Of the later bunch I cant honestly say they are much to get enthused over, but i always follow our home grown players with greater interest.

My boyhood hero was Bill Glazier....... I used to watch him at HR to try to pick up good habits as back then I was the School Goalkeeper .

The man with the Fly Paper hands ....... in a time before Gloves .

Outfield it has to be Tommy Hutchinson ......... a truly exciting player who seemed to have elastic legs .
All this nostalgia ......... those were the days !!

Yeah Ndlovu for me. I also idolised Cobi Jones and Solako. Basically quick, nippy wingers. That's where I played until I became a bit of a fat bastard.

Dion for me, forget about the rumours of how he left the club, he was fantastic for us whilst here. A leader on the pitch and scored goals even when we stuck him at CB to shoe horn Moldovan in the side. I still think if we'd have stuck with Dion and Hucks up front we would've gone even further in that 97/98 season.

Boateng whilst he was here was a favourite of mine. Played very much like a typical box to box midfielder and busted a gut for every single minute he played with that extra touch of class. Always found it odd that when he left us other teams changed him into a Defensive Midfielder who would sit in front of his teams back 4.

Nilsson was a touch of class at RB, big Mo was loved by fans, Peter Ndlouv and Robbie Keane would get the fans on the edge of their seats. All these classy players we had in the decade prior to relegation makes everything we have done since relegation all the more sadder.

Dion for me. I could make a whole team from my favourite players over the last 30 years, but Dion would get into the side in more than one position.

Dion was one of the finest players I've seen in a City shirt but for a fans love you have to compare the bad boys and characters, people like Speedie, Whelan, Micky Quinn, Big Mo, even Peter Billing who was hopeless but just loved seeing him out there. However, I think one player if we had him earlier in his career and for longer than half a season would have been the only name on this thread - Wise.

Roy Wegerle, absolute class during his brief spell, Speedie could make the impossible look easy, Steve Hunt carried the entire team on his own, Ndlovu the last genuine player to get you on your feet, Dion, Hutch, Wallace ect'

Tommy Hutch for me.
He was just about every Right Backs nightmare, he performed with amazing consistancy, week, in week out, a real genuine crowd pleaser, something we've lacked
for a long time, the solo stars have almost been coached out of our game, and the viewing experience is all the worse off for it, the roar that went up when Tommy received the ball was nerve tingling,.........."bring back the entertainers"
Regards Tankie..

There is quite a few in my list, but I think Dion would have to top it with a Nuddy not very far behind.

I did also enjoy the Hadji & Chippo regime.

When I first started following the city it was Dennis Mortimer that impressed me the most. I remember when he was transferred to the vile I was gutted. Later, players like Roger van Gool, Gary Thompson, Danny Thomas and what about Terry Gibson (hat trick against Liverpool in 4-0 drubbing). In the last 10 years it is difficult to pick out anyone that I would say inspired me to want to go and watch in particular. Probably Dennis Wise was a high point. Of the current crop I see Connor Thomas and Cyrus Christie as potential fans favourites for the future .... If we can hold onto them.
