Do they also charge the full store price when you reserve online but collect in store the way Argos do?

Do Argos do that? They've never done that for me and by, when I moved house half my furniture came from there, originally

Actually, love Argos myself (ahem) but their sales need watching. They do the proper dodgy thing of rotating a few goods on certain prices for six months a go, so they can have massive 'reductions' later. My bed was apparently 330% off, which was an obvious lie when compared with other retailers... although still the cheapest place!

Currys was a madhouse today. It's funny but the items on special offer on their website never appear to be in the store.

So I've read in several forums.

I just tried to do that with a certain item but Currys wouldn't let me as it was "in stock". Yet when I visited the same store earlier this evening there was no sign of said item, not at anything like that price anyway.

Yeah, I'm only a sample of one but def typical of Currys. The deal they have with manufacturers for slightly different models, and model numbers also doesn't help compare prices either, so makes it harder to tell if you're getting a true bargain or not.

I was able to order the same item for free home delivery at the online offer price even though I could have saved them time and money by picking it up myself from the store!

One thing puzzled me and that was at Argos.

Bought a phone for my daughter (wasn't a Black Friday deal). It said the item was in stock at the City Arcade Coventry, but that I couldn't pick it up until Wednesday.

How can it be that I paid for it and it is in stock but I can't have the item for 5 days?

My guess Otis is that if it was in stock you would not have been allowed to pay for it in advance. That is what other Argos customers have claimed anyway and that has also been my experience with Currys.

Not sure if Argos make it up as they go along

Normally never had a problem reserving things and paying in store

Tonight I've tried to reserve something for collection and it's only allowing payment in advance with collect in store.

I think I'm going to boycott them**

** at least until tomorrow when I plan to go to Argos and get said item but pay on the day; they aren't having my money in advance out of principle

I went to PC world / currys to view their tv selection to see which size I'd prefer to buy. The model I liked was on show was only in 50 inch. I asked a member of staff if they had the 40 inch on as a demonstration set as the tag advertised it was available in other sizes, 40 included.

Salesmen spoke briefly with another member of staff who escorted me over to................... a completely different tv that I'd referred to, with a completely different spec, still bigger than what I'd asked to see if it was on show and an extra £250 on the price tag. Clearly I was confused by this.

I was then offered a 'further discount' which actually translated to 'I could sell you this TV and get you to sign up for packages on top for Sky, Virgin etc etc'.

Safe to say I left that store without purchasing a TV!

Their policy has always been though (or so I'm told) that you have to pay the in-store price that day which may or may not be higher than the price when you reserved it online.

I was staggered when thumbing through their in-store catalogue just how much it differed from their online selection.

Yeah i don't bother listening to their shit, usually know what I.want when I go in.

Like when they try and sell you a network cable for about twenty quid.

Can also be lower, mind.

tbf I have no problem with paying a higher price if it's gone up the next day when I go to collect it. That's my own problem for reserving for free rather than paying there and then, or not going to get it right then.

Fair enough if they at least give you the option of paying up front, that's not always the case though.

I also remember an item at Argos which could be ordered online at a low price for home delivery but the delivery charge cancelled out any saving.

Well yep, but tried to buy a number of other models and they were all out of stock and it wouldn't let me place an order for them.

Everything had to be paid up front, but you couldn't order unless the product was in stock at the store of your choosing.

I had to find a model they had at either the Gallagher or Arcade store.

It said it was 'in stock' and could be collected, but that I couldn't collect it until Wednesday.

I had a bizarre experience at Argos lately.
I was looking for memory cards on the net and the link sent me to the Argos eBay account
I was after 128gb card, Argos online was about 80 quid but their eBay account it was 27 quid with 3 quid posting.
Thought happy days of course but then noticed immediate click and collect Free at Argos?
Did that, whilst picking up some regular orders from Argos and the process was exactly the same, like it was just coming out of their regular stock and not special ordered in to the store.
I always thought the Argos eBay was for seconds and shit stock, worth taking it seriously now and checking there before trying regular Argos

I got the best deal of all. I stayed home and saved all my money. I saved £299 by just not buying a new fridge. My old one works fine even if the light flickers sometimes.

I would have saved £299 as well, but unfortunately our old fridge freezer is knackered.

My son told me yesterday John Lewis had the Hive thermostat, including fitting, for £199. I had considered getting one of these anyway, so saved £50 from the British Gas £249 cost.

Deals still available I think

Getting a pro to fit it is very useful, as it also controls hot water as well as heating. I'd have no idea how to connect it all.

Gosh, I wish I'd bought the Philips bluetooth headphones when they were in the 'Black Tag' sale at Currys, they're a hell of lot more expensive now.
