Sorry, BSB, I haven't included social clubs in my collection..
How about the old British Legion club in Balsall Common Early/mid 70’s ? Fond childhood memories of that place.
My hunting ground back in the day as only lived couple hundred yards away then into the Chinese takeaway in Broomfield RoadWhen back in cov on my most recent trip I visited my old favourite ‘the Albany’ in Earlsdon. Christ! What have they done to it?!
I used to love it in there. back in my day they had pool tables upstairs, if you could see them through thick fog of weed smoke.
Is Billy Lane's fishing shop still open? Used to love spending ages in there just mooching about. Not the original, sadly. Although I have a really old picture (below)

Billy Lane was a mate of my dad, lived in Tomson Avenue Coundon and used the Coachmakers club now and again, a real character. When he was practising for the World championship he used to fish by the first bridge at the canal basin and don’t know how he did but caught decent fish all the time.
God I miss the pub
That got burnt down too, and the New Inn opposite Windmill Road and the Hawthorne Tree and the Cheylesmore on Daventry Road then the Green Man was demolished apparently by mistake, how the hell that happens god knows, all built on eventually. The Bantam.........of course. Looking at that picture brings back memories. Nice looking building too!!
Thanks for digging out the picture.
Yeah me too.... landlady keeps popping around to see me which makes it worse!!!!God I miss the pub
I was in the Green Man the last night before closing down. It was turning into a pub for us Cov fans on the way to the Ricoh. Couple in there on to Old Crown on Windmill Road, then the Wheatsheaf. They put Cov shirts up etc in the Green Man then it shut down !That got burnt down too, and the New Inn opposite Windmill Road and the Hawthorne Tree and the Cheylesmore on Daventry Road then the Green Man was demolished apparently by mistake, how the hell that happens god knows, all built on eventually.
There are quite a few open in London area - take away booze in disposable plastic glasses and sit outside somewhereYou’d have a long trip (depending where you live), and have to sit in the beer garden and get your drinks from a portable (dunno) serving thing. In Hammersmith. Not the only one either. Madness. Be fucking mayhem.
It was decent. Had something for everyone. Used to be really busy on Fridays and Saturdays. Where do earlsdon folk go now?My hunting ground back in the day as only lived couple hundred yards away then into the Chinese takeaway in Broomfield Road
There was a bar in Coombe Abbey park years ago. Bet you haven't got any pics Houch ?Sorry, BSB, I haven't included social clubs in my collection.
You win the bet BBR! Lol!There was a bar in Coombe Abbey park years ago. Bet you haven't got any pics Houch ?
Good question Harry. No, I never did, although I was there for 8 years, I never really considered the history of the place. When I first moved there in 2010, there were a good few pubs then, that have since closed down. I could find out if anyone has a local page, as I still follow the island stuff on Facebook. I got banned from just two while I was there. Not bad going for me!Question for Houch - did you carry on this hobby to Isle of Wight pubs?
Spent many a childhood to mid teens over there and frequented quite a few.
Edit: only remember a handful particularly well.

All I can recall about The Plough was that someone walked in one evening, took out a sawn-off shotgun from under his coat and shot one of the customers. It was a gangland style thing. Can't remember if the bloke died or not. I think he did. That was years ago - maybe back in the early 80's?Ive always wondered if the food is any good in there.
My mistake on the year. It was 1996. 1996 Plough pub shooting: Jury cannot reach a verdictAll I can recall about The Plough was that someone walked in one evening, took out a sawn-off shotgun from under his coat and shot one of the customers. Hatton Arms is doing it as well. There are quite a few open in London area - take away booze in disposable plastic glasses and sit outside somewhere
Toilets and other facilities not open
Mostly places off the main drag
I like Carlsberg.Hatton Arms is doing it as well.
Or if you just want a draught pint a little closer without the nice views you can always get one in the Longford store:

Shame it's Carlsberg.
Further to my earlier reply, I found a site listing IoW pubs. Not sure how 'historic' they are though? My personal local was the Castle in Newport and the Newport Ale House.Question for Houch - did you carry on this hobby to Isle of Wight pubs?

Ah yeah, I’ve heard that’s all a bit like that nowadays. It was probably a bit like that back then! They've got to do something to shield the people snorting coke off of the bar!
I go meet me Dad at the City Arms now and again , Loved the Cottage and the Oak back in the day. Friday was Albany, Oak , Cottage , Saturday nights were Albany, Hen & Chickens, Hertford Tavern, 3 Tuns , Bear Inn High Street, Top SpotIt was decent. Had something for everyone. Used to be really busy on Fridays and Saturdays. Where do earlsdon folk go now?
We used to spend our time between there and the cottage.
Not certain of ownership as such, but they definitely ran it for years. Ken, his wife was Mary (it’s slowly coming back) and his daughter was Jen with the mad hair. They left (when Gus took over?) and opened the original Browns in the lower precinct. The door policy there was crazy, let you in one week and not the next (although we were a bit young and full of beans tbf). Not sure they owned it to be honest , I know they supplied the heavys on the door on most of the city boozers
Not half as much as I do :emoji_sob:God I miss the pub
The new cottage is decent like. Tad pricey though so normally only a couple in there then City Arms.I go meet me Dad at the City Arms now and again , Loved the Cottage and the Oak back in the day. Tbh didn’t go in there much as it was always full of older people. The Clarence used to be good but was just the wrong way to meander into town.
Travesty what happened to the cottage. Am I right in thinking it’s a pizza place now?
