He must look in the mirror and think what has gone wrong with his career - thought he was a class player with us and looked a player of the future for Sunderland first team - now on loan with Mansfield as cannot get in a poor Notts County team

Mansfield are doing better than Notts County atm but I see your point. Thought he was a very good LB with us and it's a shame to see his career decline.

He suffered from the Ryan Haynes syndrome - a crap defender who moved forward and looked better than say Stokes going forward - but would still be useless in wide midfield

It never ceases to amaze me how our fans seem obsessed with the attacking qualities of our defenders but ignore the defending. He couldn't defend. Haynes probably is the worst defending full back I've seen but hey he gets the odd cross in so let's ignore the fact.

Adams as a defender was piss poor.

At the start of the season everyone seemed desperate for Phillips to start ahead of Willis because he's 'better going forwards'.

Willis is clearly the better all round full back.

I completely disagree, but there you go.

Clearly football managers don't disagree hence his decline.

I wouldn't argue with that - and I don't pretend that I'd make a good football manager :)

But in this case IMHO a very good player seems to have ended up getting into a downward spiral, and I hope he can turn that around. Adams was one of the catalysts for that great spell under Robins.

It is like I have said many times before. It doesn't matter how good a player is. If you play him out of position or play in a way that doesn't suit their style of play they will not look as good. You see it all the time.

Some players love it out wide. Put them in the middle and they lose the edge. Some players love it in the middle. But they get put out wide and look useless. Some are good at sitting back and setting others up but are no good at going forward, That is why you have a squad with players coming in and out of the first team. But you need a good manager for it to work. He will play the players to their strengths. For instance Fleck looks a different player under TM. Murphy goes missing most of the time, but when he was put in the Armstrong position he looked a different player and was a constant threat.

How about last game when everyone was having a moan about Fortune starting and said Tudgay should have been in? I saw him being the right player for the opponents and said he would have a good game. And I am not saying I would be a good manager. I would be as poor as SP :) You need someone like TM who plays to his teams strengths as well as our opponents weaknesses. Like against Peterboro when he made subs at half time and changed the game. Why didn't he just keep the same players and move them about? Their manager admitted he was outsmarted by a better manager. He would make a better player out of Adams. But that doesn't mean he would play every game. Just when it would suit the opponents and style of play.

I agree with all of that, and I hope Blair Adams soon finds himself playing for someone who can get great performances out of him like Robins did.

He was a great left back and we should have kept him. It was one of those strange Pressley decisions. He'd be a better option than Haynes or Stokes. And I like Stokes.
