A bit late but trying a bit of a retro Xmas with the family. Can't stand the tedium of Monopoly or role playing games - any good uns without too much complexity?
Game of Life looks good - never played it, will make a change from Cluedo. Expensive to buy new but there always seem plenty of these old games in charity shops.
There's also the pie face one and one where you wear a gum shield and have to say things. Both quite entertaining
There's a really dark card game as well, I've not played it but have read it's quite sick. Think is called cards against humanity or something like that.
Is it for family game or for you and a mate? If the former then yes re Game of Life or Go for Broke or an old fav Totopoly (2 games in one...train your horse etc...then the race). If it for two adults then something like Avalon Hill games such as Waterloo or Stalingrad; prob need eBay for these; they are complex initially but great games
I only really like strategy games.
Risk or Diplomacy if you want to spend all the holidays playing a single game and to fall out with everyone.
Catan is good.
To be honest, I'd play bridge every day if my family were interested. Other than chess, cannot think of a better game.
It's family but they are all very competitive - kids in their 30s. Used to love Risk probably a bit politically incorrect these days as I seem to remember it was about conquering foreign lands and building empires. Don't know Catan - will give it a look. Also Capt Dart's selection look intriguing.
Totoploly forgot all about that one, happy memories. Used to love playing cribbage with my dad but the current generation aren't interested in cards.
I wanted some action games as well like shove hapenny, and shuffleboard but they are crazy prices and I think I could build them myself. Shuffleboard costs as much as a good quality table football!
