who would you rather have as manager?

I'd rather have Boothroyd but i pretty sure the players prefer Thorn.

Is that actually part of the problem? Do players enjoy playing for Fergie or the likes of George Graham and their discipline, or do they just respect them and know deep down athough they might like being told what to do its actually in their best interest

One has already been used as a scapegoat the other will be used as one aswell. should never have sacked boothroyd ugly football but he was doin a decent job and in the end probably cost us king

I'm reliably informed that the biggest factor in Boothroyd being sacked was the impression (whispered or otherwise) that he had lost the dressing room. I was disappointed when we got him, although slightly heartened following a good start to the season (everyone loves a lofty League position). When results started to go against us and all we were left with was pretty dross football, that was it. I very very rarely advocate sacking a manager; we've done plenty of that at City with few results; but I didn't mourn him leaving. Was delighted to get a manager who played football and hear comments from a couple of players that it was a treat playing for him. Despite the paucity of results this season, I agree with NLHWC; Thorn everytime.

I,d take Thorn any day, have you forgotten the Ugly, primitive, catatonia inducing Hoofball, that we were subjected to, It felt like a punishment, for something I'D done wrong, a bit like getting the cane at School, { anyone remember that} there's no proof if would work anyway, if we're going down, lets go down trying to play decent football, I cant recall any opposition to Bothroydes sacking at the time, and wasn't andy thorn a good old boy until recently, I can't remember Block 15, singing # he's got some hair and we dont care# at any stage, Fickle is a word used widely on forums, usually about the stay away supporters, but this sugestion, gives a nailed on, crystal clear definition, "Bothroyde, keep away from my football club" YOu nearly turned me into "Rip Van Winkle"

Indeed. I remember Aidy Boothroyd's name being chanted by the smallish following away at Leicester last season when we took the lead and I leaned across to my mate, looked around and said 'Alright, that's a bit strong, let's not get carried away'. I wanted him to succeed as it is not nice to hear your incoming manager roundly slagged off by opposing fans. But the football was toss... Hoofroyd was completely apt. If I ever start to miss him, football is not for me anymore.

Looking at this, I think I buck the trend...

I didn't agree with AB's sacking. I think given a couple of seasons he would of made us into a very competitive championship outfit.

I think we are too weak at the moment. Andy Thorn is doing as much as he can I think but clearly something is lacking. I will continue to chant the Andy Thorn anthem but I dont think we would be in the relegation zone under AB. (Disclaimer* I am not or related to Aidy Boothroyd.)

I would prefer Hoofroyd, for all his long ball downfalls, he turned us into an ugly gritty side that opposition teams were worried about coming to. He had us flying high at one point and he should've been given a bit more money to try his best.

I still dont get the "thorns better to watch thing" I find it much more exciting watching a match where the ball is in the oppositions box than passing it around in our own half.

We scored more goals under Boothroyd and thats what I find exciting!

You can only compare on last seasons games because that was when they both had the same set of players !!!!!!!!

However, for the majority of Thorns games in charge last year we were virtually safe and playing with no pressure. Playing football is easy when there is no pressure of going down and a new manager to try and impress. That is where the good resaults came about last year. Even then, there were only 3 wins remember.

Only one loss in eight games though and I don't remember us feeling that safe !!!!!!!

I think you could argue that had Boothroyd stayed that we'd have been relegated last season rather than this, we were in total free fall at the time and I couldn't see where the next win was coming from. As somebody alluded to he'd totally lost the dressing room and I'm told that no premiership managers would loan their young players to him because of his style of football. All of those things caused his ultimate sacking. I'm not particularly pro-Thorn, I think he's outdated in his approach, particularly off the pitch. I think the initial upturn in results was as much down to relief at the removal of Boothroyd, the players were given some freedom and responded to it. Ironically I believe they now have too much freedom (on and off the pitch).

I would hazard a guess at a new manager coming in should the takeover be successful over the coming months in preparation for our likely battle to get out of League 1 at the first attempt.

At least AT could get them playing good stuff, with the right team at his disposal.

Gardner's goal was quality- attacked the ball in the box, with his head. We have missed that sort of player for too long........underlines your point, really.

That is the thing, AT has been found out with the Diamond. It is ok paying pretty passing football without hoofing it but how many goals were conceded when Turner was whacking it up to Juke, Platt or King compared to Clingan and the defence trying to pass it around the strikers?

Just because some including me have lost faith in Thorn to get us out of this lets not pretend AB was some kind of footballing god. We played rubbish football for the majority and had some major luck which got us into the position we found ourselves in. AB played aimless hoofball and now with Thorn we are trying to playing aimless passing football without any purpose.
It was right for AB to be given the sack at the time. It is all well saying we need continuity but not at the expense of being relegated, if the players and fans don't believe in the manager any more there is only one solution.

Boothroyd was unlucky, Clingan, Ben and Carso all got injured at the start of the bad run! I think If Ben and Clingan had been fit all season we would have finished in a respectable position and i also think Marlon would still be here as well!

Carso was a big miss as well!

Iv never liked Thorn from Preston onwards i thought he was the wrong choice! And thatw as his second game in charge!

AB struggled with king in his side. Where would we be now with King this season? Maybe closer to the top than bottom. A passing game with a quality striker that can score from anywhere and also go past players.

have you forgot about the way thorn transformed us when he first took over? we were awful under boothroyd and were in freefall once we got found out and thorn got us playing some great footy at times and the transformation was immense.

then the season ended and we lost the spine of the team and we aint repalced them and we are where we are.
