COVENTRY City manager Aidy Boothroyd believes youngster Conor Thomas has a big future in football after graduating from the academy.
The 17-year-old started this season as a regular for the Academy side but after a series of impressive performances, he was promoted to the first team bench for the trips to Crystal Palace and Reading.
Although the youngster has yet to make his first team debut Boothroyd is confident Thomas has all the makings of a great player and will do a fantastic job when called upon.
“I am not afraid to play young players,” said Boothroyd. “I will give people a chance I have no problems with that at all and I think Conor is going to be an outstanding talent.
He is only 17, he has been on the bench and played in the first team, but in terms of league football he can handle the Championship no bother. He is a serious contender for a starting place.
Boothroyd is no stranger to offering young players first team opportunities. He threw Nathan Cameron in at the deep at the start of the season and the former Colchester boss believes Thomas has the same credentials as Cameron.
He added: “Nothing fazes him. One of the most important things I think for young players is not always about the talent it’s about having the temperament and Conor like Nathan Cameron in many ways has got a great temperament.
The better he trains and the more he trains with the professionals on a daily basis, which is what he has been doing for the last two months, then the more he is going to grow in confidence.”
Conor Thomas is a Central Midfielder(CM) aged 17 product of the CCFC academy.
