Does being bottom of the table on xmas day still mean your relegated?

Depending on today's results that's where we could find ourselves

No, you have to be bottom of the table at the end of April.

Do you mean 'does it normally result in being relegated if you are at the bottom at Christmas?'

I know it does, or at least used to be the case in the Premier.

Just had a quick check and apparently in 8 of the last 9 seasons, whoever was bottom on Boxing Day went down.

Yes it is the old football maxim. Even if you put a couple of good results together after Xmas other teams near the bottom are fighting for their lives. Of course relegation can be avoided but it's one almighty scrap.
And if we have our usual post Xmas slump then in the words of Pte Frazier "we're Doomed I tell ya...Doomed".
However if we can bring in a few quality players, a hard man in defence and if some of the kids we have develop quickly we should be ok.
But if we let the loans go without replacing and if we sell an asset like Stevenson then the writing is on the wall.

I think it's almost inevitable, as listening to Tim Fisher's comments yesterday, its very clear now the model has to balance the books NOT remain necessarily in this league ... so as income drops, so must the costs, there WILL be a player being sold next January, so guessing Willis or Stevenson ... and whilst I think there will be a manager arrive that's new and a few new faces, the maths means we won't be able to challenge for a bottom half place, that's outside of the bottom 4 that is ... down is the only outcome I see.

Have to say, that SISU won't mind this ... the books will still balance in L2, as income will drop, players will go and even younger and cheaper players will be on the pitch ... there is no end game, any league will do .. he made the biggest hint yesterday, no unrealised debts are key ... so as long as they tick on ... those theoretical losses don't crystallise and hence SISU happy ... who cares if we are as fans ?

Definition of Slump "To decline suddenly, to fall away" I don't think we can have a post xmas slump this year based on the definition.

Not looking good today at the moment. Only three clubs below us, two of which are winning at half time.

Stays like this and there will only be Oldham below us and them with a game in hand.

4 wins from 22 games is criminal.

Ah, it doesn't look that bad. Feel quite optimistic now. We'll be Top Six by Valentines Day.

After 22 games last season we were 3rd and had 40 points.

This season after 22 games we are 23rd and have just 19 points.

:(

I know, bloody depressing. Mowbray failed big time given the position we were in, and he ended up strengthening with bilge..

When you look back to Jan you have to wonder what he was thinking! Hunt? Ramage? Henderson?

Imagine being an Oldham fan. Going home tonight thinking "we're one of the only professional football clubs in the country that is performing worse than that circus". Was with them at Lincoln the day after we lost to Cambridge. Actually made me feel better. They were terrible. At least their players scored a couple in the second half and looked interested & competitive for 3 minutes though!

Yep, people say we didn't strengthen but.

Lorentzson (December)
Rose
Ramage
Hunt
Henderson
Ghadzev (March)
Jones
Cargill
Stephens

Plus kept
Armstrong
Cole
Bigi
Maddison (albeit after we sold him)

Mowbray lost the plot in January, scary too that Lorentzson, Hunt and Ramage all had a trial first!

Last year we had from the start loans like arma, Murphy and Kent. This year we have agyei and wright. After Xmas we had hunt, ramage and Henderson. Just hope that what we get in January matches are August and September of last season and not the dross in January.

Which makes you wonder what the hell was Mowbray thinking! He had May, June, July and August to sort stuff out. He ballsed up the recruitment big time.

TM clearly aimed too high in the summer, tried to lure players in on his reputation and our "old" reputation of being a big club. Tm's lure was not enough and our current state of a club reputation goes before him and we cannot offer the the salary to compensate that. Hence why we're sat in a piss poor state today.

I only fancy us to survive if Russel Slade is appointed and then it will be only be just by the skin of our teeth!!

My thinking is that he could have brought in a few decent players but would have had to give them 2 year contracts and that wouldn't be sanctioned by the owner who understands f**k all about football or business and only understands a balance sheet.

The off field position of the club makes it difficult to attract players, been saying it since the summer.

How many proven league one players who are in there prime do we have?

It's either young players, who are either making mistakes, not good enough or just using us as a stepping stone. And then old players who are way past it.

McCann, Sordell and Reid are probably the only players in the squad who meet the definition of proven in league one and are of the right age

That said how many other league one type of players did we go in for?
A think a few were dismissed to easily, hence this is why the next managerial appointment has to be a bread and butter manager from league one or two to get these type of players in.
Then add in your loans to supplement the squad, not be the squad.
