Not necessarily true, there are many footballers who have played professionally who had no or very little interest in football. They just happened to be good at it, and can make a lot of money out of it.
Standard motivational theory would disagree. Pay is a hygiene factor, if it’s crap it upsets you but it doesn’t make you love your job. That’s the “old romantic” stuff like feeling you’re a part of something or working in good surroundings. Research shows those are the things that make you want a job, pay just makes you want to leave if it’s bad.
People seriously overestimate the impact pay has on employee behaviour.
Indeed. Wonder if he was was any good at cross country running compared to his ability as a footballer?Very true Paul Telfer didn’t like football, he preferred cross country running.
This would explain so many a tired assertion that he 'Covered every blade of grass on the pitch'. If only the pursuit of X country was accompanied with a football at your feet.Indeed. Wonder if he was was any good at cross country running compared to his ability as a footballer?
That makes two of us then, cos I didn't like watching Paul Telfer play football.Very true Paul Telfer didn’t like football, he preferred cross country running.
However we could deffo offer him more money than hibs, probably double....Can’t see MCNulty returning tbh would be having to take a big pay cut

If Robins really is in for him we would have a great chance, the reading manager wants him gone and quickly aswell as lots of other reading players
And a Scotland cap aswell!Probably one of the luckiest players in the history of football. Had no actual football talent yet still made it.

Was speaking to Strachan/Dublin not that long ago and they were both saying that he wasn’t the best footballer in the world but was the best teammate in the changing room and around Ryton?Strange think with Telfer was that after his 2nd game for us in a midweek home game against Man City, when Isaias played a blinder (some will remember), Blackburn offered over double the money we had paid Luton for him that Summer. Big Ron turned it down!
Not sure about no talent either - I remember reading the 'Staying Up' book where the guy who wrote it was talking to the staff at CCFC, who all said he was one of our most natural footballers, in terms of the sweetness with which he struck the ball, and that when he kicked the ball it made a pinging sound, as he kicked it so cleanly.
Having said that I also found him a hugely disappointing player though. Perhaps his lack of interest in the game led to his fairly one dimensional playing style, where other than his running ability, he offered little in terms of doing anything better than the ordinary.
I think Scotland caps work a bit like jury duty. And a Scotland cap aswell!
Good point agreedRealistically McNulty is going to have to take a pay cut at somepoint. So he's got two choices. Either he's going to make the decision that he wants to sit on his contract for the next 3 years and be loaned out to a number of clubs until he’s 30, or he’ll take the cut and settle at a club for a few years.
With regards to the loan route though. There’s nothing to say we couldn’t sign him on loan if that’s the route he chooses. At least then he wouldn’t have to take a pay cut. The only issue with that is it’ll all boil down to who’s able to cover as much of his salary as possible and there also could be a loan fee involved as well.

Thought they'd released a player called Enzo Sausage for a second there. Very sensible soccer. Sadly not.

Would they loan him back if they'd only got him on a one year deal? Maybe the extension was triggered just to get some cash dollar from us in terms of a transfer fee. Although that's probably wishful thinking. Insert sad face here.I still think we'll be in prime position to take him on loan if someone like Barnsley doesn't come in.
Why not? His tribunal fee would drop massively stuck in the U23s for a year as opposed to tearing up League One.Would they loan him back if they'd only got him on a one year deal? Yeah, and they can stick their complimentary biscuits up their arse too. Condescending bastards.Well, that's probably that then.
Didier Agathe Slaughters Gordon Strachan Over Son-In-Law Paul TelferWhat did Telf do once he retired? (Apart from play golf)
Meanwhile, Wolves Academy graduate Bright Enobakhare has had a one-year option in his contract triggered to keep him at the club.
I don't rekon they want to keep him at all, they just want us to pay them something which we probably willIsn't a new deal is it? It's an option triggered by the club.
Agree with this. Think they're going to try and get something low like £200k but with a 30% sell-on fee.I don't rekon they want to keep him at all, they just want us to pay them something which we probably will
