This season, Sky Blues in the Community has got two BTEC Football Academy teams playing in the National Under 19 Junior Development League. The two teams, based at Henley College and Warwickshire College represent Coventry City in the Midlands/ North Division of the competition.

Both teams have made a strong start to the season, with SBitC Henley winning both of their first two games against strong opposition from Birmingham City and Crystal Palace – who are managed by ex-Arsenal and Republic Ireland midfielder Eddie McGoldrick. Henley currently sit second in the league behind last year’s winners, Liverpool.

The newly-formed SBitC Warwickshire also made a fantastic start to the season, beating Burnley FC ‘B’ 10-1 and continued their strong start by drawing 1-1 with Sunderland at Central Ajax last Wednesday. Warwickshire are coached by former Coventry City FA Cup winner David Phillips and current Coventry City academy coach Chris McCoy, and sit in third place behind their Henley College counterparts.

The BTEC Education Academy sees students combine their BTEC studies with professional coaching from UEFA A and B qualified coaches and play games on a Wednesday afternoon against teams from other professional club college programmes. The education element of the Sky Blues BTEC programmes takes place at the college sites, allowing students to get fully involved in a normal student life, whilst benefitting from all of the pastoral support that the college environment offers.
