Regis had gone from football genius to night clubbing bad boy which was why Albion got rid of him. All the indicators were he was on his way down and out. Was very average for us at first and got injured (broken arm) when nobbing a local DJs wife.
Latterly, he found God and reformed. His ability was never in doubt and he came back to be a great player for us, although he never reached the heights of his earlier form when he first joined West Brom.
Are these a thing of the past, do they even exist anymore? Who realistically can literally put thousands on a gate.
Trying to think who we have signed in the past that comes into this category.
Arguably Speedie, that signing showed real intent, did it fill seats, probably not, who am I missing or is it an outdated myth.
Agree re: Robbie Keane, but I was staggered that we signed Hadji, after having watched him play in the World Cup - couldn't believe that a 'top' team hadn't signed him ahead of us.

In hindsight, he was only 19 and, from what I recall, had just come back from a nasty injury. If we'd managed to stay up, I suspect he'd have done much better the following season.
