Manager Tony Mowbray has been keeping an eye out for a more experienced custodian prepared to come in to deputise, but the former Arsenal Academy player insists: “I want to play games, that’s what I’m here for.
“I’m not here to just be a No.2. Some goalkeepers accept that but I’m not and I want to push Lee as much as I can to better himself and myself.
“It was difficult last year and I went out to Nuneaton on loan but this year I came in for the summer and told the gaffer I want to play and that I am ready if Burgey ever gets injured.
“We all know how good a goalkeeper Lee is and hopefully the competition is there. We both want to be No.1 here and we push each other all the time.
“Hopefully I have shown the gaffer and the fans that in the games I’ve played.”
Who does Mowbray pick against Wigan? In my opinion I doubt he's going to throw Charles Cook in against Wigan for his first league start although he's a better keeper and commands his box much better than Burge. I've no doubt Charles Cook will play the most games this season. I think it's clear Mowbray knows Burge isn't the best he could get, so he's just trying to big up him in the media to keep him content until he can find a better and more experienced goalkeeper or hope Charles Cook steps up.
