Can you blame Thorn today? (3 Viewers)

1. Bristol were able to make 6 changes. We were unable to do that. They had fresh legs and we couldn't compete with that.

2. We had players playing with knocks and carrying injuries.

3. Lost the left back in Hussey and with that lost our shape.

4. Just a game too far for us I think. Said before the game that I didn't think we had the depth of squad to play 2 games in 3 games.

I have been critical of AT in the past but I have to say I don't think we can throw too much flak his way today.

Tired performance from a tired team.

I would say he has to take some of the blame. We were looking for the draw from the off. Hussey was having problems with their Right Winger all game, I was surprised they took him off but what a change that was..... Their manager obviously saw we were weak there and exploited it.

He took too long to make changes, even when we were 2-1 down he brought Bigi on who just sat back. At 2-1 we should have thrown the kitchen sink at them, we didn't.

Why take Cody off? Our only real threat of late when McSheffrey did nothing all game but foul a couple of times when players got past him.

Okay ......

1. Hussey was obviously injured. Nowt we could do about that.

2. Bigi was very poor on Saturday, so don't see how he could have changed things today.

3. Cody was puffing and blowing. It was plain to see on the TV pictures.

I just think we were tired, Nick.

This was a long time for ages we have not competed. Was it down to tiredness? Players playing with knocks?

We will never know for sure, but looked that way to me.

I am one of the first on here to point the finger when it is warranted.

Don't think today AT is to blame.

2 games, 3 days. Think that explains everything.

Took Cody off, should have taken Platt off.

Of course you can blame the manager to some degree. If the manager is without any blame at all, what's he doing there?

I agree Bigi was poor, so to bring him on and sit back was stupid. I would much rather he brought Nimely on for McSheffrey and gone for it.

Cody was doing the running, if we had Nimely on doing some of the running up front and chasing with MacDonald and Platt we could have really gone at them.

Can footballers really not play 2 games in 3 days? Is it the fitness coach thing again? We do have one.

From watching it was clear we wanted a draw, when teams sit back they hardly get a draw. When we go all out at teams we tend to get results.

He is not without blame. I have blamed him on many occasions. But today we had a tired team and a number of players carrying injuries.

What the fook is AT supposed to have done different?

We have around 10-15 senior fit players for the majority of the season. Thorn is partially to blame but largely SISU are the reason we are on the verge of league 1.

So we win and AT is a genius, but when we lose it is because of tiredness? This is where things need to be balanced.

He took off our only possible goal threat.... We were 2-1 down in a relegation 6 pointer and we didn't go at them. He should have had everybody filling the box, crosses were going in with just 2 players in the box....

Don't think a fitness coach is any good though when you have a squad so small. Bristol could make 6 changes. That tells you everything.

The original post is spot on. They looked fresher than we did because we were playing with players injured and they could make 6 changes.

There are people around saying that the effort wasn't there from the players and that they didn't give their all. For those people, do you honestly think that for the last 7 games the players have run through walls and bust their balls for each other and turned up to the biggest game of the season today and decided not to bother?

The result is devastating today and I genuinely thought we had a shot at getting a good result, but it's not a surprise given our position and our situation.

Of course squad size comes into it, it was blatant from the off we weren't going to go at them for the win...

I wouldn't mind about a small squad if we had to play kids but we went all out when we needed to. At 2-1 we should have given it everything, instead we just carried on playing tip tap across the back with the occasional hoof up to platt when only he was there.

Easy to point the finger and look for someone to blame.

Facts though say we have a squad that is too small, have several players carrying injuries and couldn't rotate the squad the way Bristol could.

AT is not to blame entirely no, i agree but he is to blame for lack of effort when needed and poor substitutions.
he also failed to change it and I don't accept tired players nonsense. These are pro footballers fighting for survival in THE crucial game.....yet we looked lacklustre second half and clueless against a poor Bristol.

AT must take some blame but not all. fact si we should have done much better. Platt was never working anyone could see that but AT stuck with it instead of keeping Cody on and sending McSheff up top and bring on two young lads in nimely and bigi expecting to score?

Late on we should have sent Keogh forward and threw the sink at them but AT seemed to think at 2-1 he didn't need to?

It's not over as I said yesterday with games and fixtures to come but handing such confidence to our biggest rival may be our own down fall.

I have absolutely no idea, but if a coach has no plan B regardless of circumstance it's a hell of a worry.

somethings not right with this club

eastwood now has 2 in 3 yet was too unfit to walk when with us

mcpake has already played 1/3 of the amount games for hibs in just over 2 months, than he has played in 3 years with us

I thought the fact they could bring Chris Wood off the bench tells you everything you need to know.

Why are you all looking for excuses? That was a game we should have won. Gifted a goal, looking the better side and yet we lost. Why?
We lost by not playing well enough second half, neither motivated enough and some poor tactical subs at the wrong times. It was there to be had we just needed to make the right decisions at the right time but we just sat in there letting them gain momentum slowly. Bet they couldn't believe their fortune expecting a much bigger fight from us second half.
Norwood and Deagan never got in the game, Sheff played wide, Platt was clearly unfit and non effective but the changes needed never came from Thorn so yes he gets some of the blame.

I didn't think we played well in the first half particularly.

Passed the ball about okay but had no cutting edge.

Neither team really played well first half, it was quite boring. Reminded me of the Forest game with 2 shocking teams.

But AT can be praised when we win? When we lose it is SISU's fault?

How many times do we have to go here?

Out investment in the playing squad is in the bottom three of the division. Therefore, all things being equal, that's where we'll end up.

If Thorn's management brings about a run of form, or position that cheats those odds - he deserves credit. If he's unable to over-achieve - like most managers don't - then you need to be able to see the bigger picture

Nick

So if he does well it is because of him being amazing, but if we lose it is because of SISU? What about the posts where people have said how good a scout he is for finding Nimely and Norwood and how the form has changed.

What about the posts saying how we just needed to be patient as Thorn is learning on the job and now we have come good.

I personally don't think our team / squad is bottom 3, I have also said Thorn has done well and made some great decisions so why can't I say I think he got it wrong today with his changes and tactics?

Nimley was injured and couldn't start.

Platt was injured

McDonald was injured.

Can we put this to bed now about these fantasy changes!!
