I've looked through a list of potential names and a few names I'd consider with the aim of ideally survival or worst case to rebuild the club on the playing side with league 2 in mind.

Russel Slade, no relegation on his cv....I've said enough about him.. has to be the top pick! He's my vote should he want the job of course....

Paul Tisdale, been at Exeter City since 2006, 2nd longest serving manager behind Arsene Wenger. Done wonders on a shoestring year after year, relying on free's and loans. Compensation required tho, and would he want to leave Exeter for this mammoth task

Gary Johnson, currently at Cheltenham. Been around and enjoyed plenty of success at Yeovil, Bristol city and more recently Cheltenham tho. Compensation required again.

David Flitcroft, recently sacked by Bury. But did save them and also get them promoted. Available, so a cheap option.

John Coleman. Mr Accrington stanly, experienced, works to a tight budget and achieved minor success reaching playoffs. Compensation required, tho likely minimal.

Ronnie Moore, been around donkeys years, seen and done most of it. Enjoyed success with Rotherham with back to back promotions, Free and available currently.

He gets touted about for most jobs at this level dont he. I believe Walsall fans hated him and his style... he lost the dressing room in 16 games. In a poll 75% fans wanted him gone. Steer clear...

Nigel Adkins with unfinished business. Intelligent and astute, has form in the lower leagues and promotions. Made the top flight with Southampton only to be cut loose.
Lost Sheff Utd job due to impatience and would have succeeded in my opinion.
A bit more personality than TM and good with media. Being a physio himself I'm sure as with Southampton his teams hardly ever had injuries? Being able to play consistent teams is a key ingredient to winning. Probably my favourite pick tbh and I think he would take the job if offered.

Under the current regime my first choice would be Russell Slade, failing that Nigel Adkins. If Sisu sell then I would go for Pearson

But given he likes long term and building, doubt we'd be his preferred choice

I saw Adams mentioned btw, and I'd have him back. His managerial record's chequered, but he seems to thrive most when a club's plunged into chaos (think Leicester, and Brighton... and us for that matter!)

Adkins had a decent spell at Scunny but I don't think he built their team. At Southampton he had a budget many multiples of CCFC's.

Nigel Adkins is a good candidate, as we know enjoyed success with Southampton and made Scunthorpe a league one / championship yoyo club in his time. Sheffield united are also known not to allow time for the project to be build so that ended.

Would he come to us, I doubt it in its current state on and off the pitch. I think he holds himself a bit higher than our situation and hold out for a better club to build once again.

I understand what your saying but maybe it's not a "decent" manager we need this time around. Maybe it's time to look further down the league, we need a man who's not afraid to look towards league 2 players and league 1, players who will be available in the summer for free. That's where we're shopping.
The better the manager they tend to look for championship players like TM tried. We don't have the appeal or budget to entice them players now so end up with frail kids, pampered from academy's.
Why not look to the hardened men who've played the game, and now playing for a league one/two club, they may just up there game playing for a club who were a top club in there youth. Being part of a new resurgence..... it's gotta start with a experienced lower league manager. Not the usual names branded around.

Any manager who comes to us without new investment or ownership, is not the person to get us out of this league in the right direction.

A professional manager must know that we have no chance of getting anywhere with declining attendances, no investment and a toxic relationship with our own fans and city.

We need someone who demands more investment, more bridge building with fans and - yes - CCC and the wider public including sponsors, or he's not taking the job. If SISU accepts that stance, then ok, but otherwise any decent manager will/should walk.

I think your wrong on a few points...
A manager could come in and without investment and get us out the league. The right manager/right core of players with the rub of the green in loans could well do it.

The key is getting that manager who's used to working in those conditions !! That appointment is key.

Over the last few days and months before Burton have been quite a example on here, they didn't spend to get out of league 2 or league one in there promotion seasons.

Many clubs now operate on frees and loans, were now just one of those clubs. The sad fact is tho this season we paid two fees for players, just a shame it likely came out of the pot for the budget overall. That's where you need that right appointment, make the best of the free's!!

We seen early last season that when things are good sisu are forgotten, the football that should be talked about is that... it can be achieved.

I do agree that many bridges need building and ultimately sisu need to f*@k off!!
Let us rebuild as a supporter owned club and become appealing to investors again on a sounder footing.

How could it be? We finished 7th in the late 80s in the top flight. In essence any top flight finish is better than what Adams achieved but yes, it was the highest finish for some years in any league.

That 8th was achieved with quite a lowly points total IIRC......I believe we've got more points since?

I never liked Adams.....always seemed totally up himself.

Reason I'd listed micky Adams on the avoid list was I think the light went out in him at port vale, looked like he'd lost the love of it after administration and constant rebuilding... loss of form.
If he's found the love and passion again then I'd be tempted to consider him as he's proven time and time again tho could not save tranmere.
He brought Dennis wise here if I recall?

I just checked and we gained more points the season we collapsed in the run-in under Roland, more under Mowbray & more under Pressley (+10).....

.....so that 8th wasn't THAT good.......still 8th though.

It's the position that counts, Mowbray and Pressley teams played far worse opposition than the Championship finish team. BTW more teams in L1 = more points

Depends on your viewpoint I guess......to me, the position only really counts if its top 6 or bottom 4......all positions in between are just shades of Meh......

More points usually means more wins and/or goals.....Adams 8th was 12 points off the play-offs...
Rolands "failure" was only 9 off.....I enjoyed Rolands season more enguin:
