Have to say I am not a fan of Baker and hope Robins gets rid sooner rather than later. Constantly gives the ball away far too often. I just don't think he is cut out for this level of football tbh.

Baker just doesn't have the ability to match his thought process. I like him for the effort he puts in but he just lacks the execution of the fancy things that he attempts.

It's the other way round. He doesn't have the brain to consider the easiest option, he then isn't able to execute the more difficult option anyway.

His push it past the left back and try and beat him for pace was very poor judgement, it was the second half and should have known the left back was faster than him.

I disagree with this, anyone that saw Carl play against Birmingham in the league cup would of seen how good he can be. He lacks confidence, playing in a winning side breeds confidence. Hopefully he can kick on now and believe in himself, because he is a decent player!

i said after the game that it was the best individual performance ive seen from one of our players for quite some time. baker is the whipping boy round here it seems. when he does good things people refuse to acknowledge it but anything negative and its a competition to see who can boo the loudest. hes clearly a confidence player and this doesnt help.

People can applaud Bakers effort and commitment but the argument that he is anything better falls apart when you look at his career.

He is 30 years old and he has played the vast majority of his career in the lower leagues.

His scoring record is poor and he did not even turn professional until 24.

He is what he is - an average League One player. When people big him up to be any more than that this makes no sense as his career proves.

When in the Championship he was completely out of his depth. For the vast majority of the 100 games he has played for us he has been a below average performer.

Reminds me of Sean Flynn. Developed a peculiar cult following but essentially is mediocre.

The fact that in 130 or so games for us, there seem to be only one or two games that his admirers rattle on about proves a point in itself.

Does he have to be stand out every game then? He's been fairly consistent this season - not piss poor, not total shit, not utter wank, he's been ok... Even good, or decent, in some games. He's part of the team, I don't admire him, but Christ, I don't go out my way to constantly barrack him, whether it be in a game or on here.

he works hard, his heart is in the right place and i think he loves the club, but yes whatever way you look at it he is not good enough at champ level and hes very average in league one, i believe he thinks hes better than he is, he also doesnt really have a position! worth his place just atm

not sure about that. baker is a player that no matter what he does people will moan and get on his back. the booing at 3 1 up in injury time made me laugh. the game was won, against a decent team and people still boo. pretty much any other player and it would have been an 'are well never mind'

Disagree.

Heard boos for McSheffrey, Clarke, Hussey, McDonald, Deegan, Barton, Baker, Kilbane, ROD, Clingan, Thomas, Eastwood all in the last year. Missed a few names out there as well for sure. That's 12 players just in that lot!

If fans think a player isn't pulling his weight fans get on their backs.

Not saying it's right, just the way it is. It is is nearly all the players and not just the nominated 'boo boy' as some make out. I think all players are a target if they don't pull their weight.

I'd agree to a certain extent but there's no doubt there's a huge tolerance difference from Baker to, say, Clark. Just as an example. It's always been the same to be fair.

Mind you, I don't remember Thomas getting booed?

There were a few idiots. Young teenagers I recall.

Sometimes I hear players' names get booed when the team sheet has been read out and they haven't even kicked the ball!

Yeah Clarke only needs to have a bad 5 minute spell for fans to get on his back....

But so has everyone. I don't think there's a player that hasn't made a few mistakes this season!

Okay, but people saw how great he was against Birmingham and that then raised the bar in terms of their expectation of him in the following games. They thought that at last we were seeing the real Carl Baker.

He seems to turn it on only very occasionally though. Fans see a great performance and think he must be a good footballer, but he then follows that up with 3 or 4 games that are not of an acceptable level.

Nowt irks fans more than that kind of inconsistency.

i understand and agree with you. most players have been booed to some degree. i bet tho, that they have been booed when we are either behind in games or trying to get a winner eg when we are getting a little frustrated. with baker however it can be the first minute of a game or even the last minute when winning comfortably. i know i sound like his biggest fan but i think some of the treatment he gets from our fans is appalling

THAT'S what you took from that?! Fair enough, it's still probably 4 and a half mins more then Baker.

Think he is consistently bad, but has the anamolous good performance.

Some seem to think because he has the very occasional good game, amongst very many bad games, then that is evidence that he is a good player, whereas I would think the evidence would point to the opposite.

Isn't this the point people are making? That in THEIR opinion, they don't think he has been playing consistently badly with the odd good game?! And this has gone onto Baker getting abuse all the time and how pointless it is.

so in your opinion it hinges on whether you think he is a poor player who can play really good or a good player that can play really poor.

Which is why he has played for who he has - he is a poor player.

Well I haven't read all 11 pages but he's done just fine for me this season. Poor crossing but defensively fine and gets the ball moving forward when others don't. Nothing outstanding but a good asset as part of our current team and league go.
