Looking around prior to the game last night and the condition of the arena is really starting to show some wear and tear. The Perspex at the top of the stands is full of grime and shite, the running track around the pitch is worn, the stench outside the ground by the casino is foul, taps are bust in the toilets, cheap wasps sign made out spare seats in the stand, pitch still not getting the attention it deserves, I can’t see it lasting another 25 years.

The problem when you don't go basic maintenance is it mounts up and a huge amount of work needs doing. If, since day one, the stadium had been maintained properly it wouldn't look anywhere near as na as it does now.

I remember when it first opened they had a gym in there. It was superb, i'd say best gym in Cov. Also had a sauna/steam room, and as part of membership you could run round the cinder "track" round the pitch.

Got closed down after a few years and used for office space. An absolute waste of a good facility, i wonder if the area is still used nowadays.

Looks a hell of a lot better than this time last year

The place was covered in moss and mould, needed painting everywhere, and a jet wash

Seems they did all that, on top of our new club shop/ ticket office and more co signage round the place

Granted it needs some more TLC but its a shitload better than it was before we moved back in

Condition of the stadium

Disappointed to say the condition of the stadium look's poor. The transparent plastic that circulates the stands is almost green with algae, the roof inside the stadium is almost black, a number of the metal joining's outside the entrances have running rust. A significant number of seats now disc...

Noticed a similar thread on the Southampton site. Is it down to poor build quality of the recently built stadiums?

Are any grounds outside of the top of Premier league that well maintained? The few aways I’ve done this season the grounds needed a refurb from top to bottom.

Does anyone have any examples of grounds that are sparkling?

It seems like all of the flatpack stadiums suffer with these faults however when you consider the state of the pitch (again) it’s no surprise that basic maintenance isn’t conducted.

A lot of it is cosmetic to be fair. The imitation sandstone brickwork outside of the stadium need a thorough jet wash and the white spokes are rusting and decolouring.

Was impressed with the West Brom ground (The Hawthornes) when I was there about four years ago. Seemed like it was really well maintained and looked after, in fact it made me think how Highfield Road could have been if we had stayed there and looked after it.

What/where did you go/see at the Hawthorn's?
I went there just before Covid and was in pretty much every part of the ground.
(Been pretty much every where in CBS too)
It is VERY dated and not a patch on the CBS in every way, the only exception being the home dressing room which was impressive in terms of equipment - individual player booths etc. (Incidentally the away dressing room was literally non- league level!)

Just realised it was the season Leicester won the title (WBA v Leicester) so was 2016, did not realise it was that long ago until I checked. I really liked it as it was an old ground that had retained it's character but gave the impression it was well looked after.

It just struck me we really missed a trick leaving Highfield Road.

Nothing wrong with it. Adds a bit of character more than anything.

The pitch at "home" is wearing but a basket case of a club like Reading with losses of £40m+ in 2020/21 on top of £43m the year before and not a pot to piss in , produce a carpet playing surface.

Probably something to do with Irish moving back to London so they don't have to share it with a rugby team. Funnily enough Irish play at a club not far from Wasps traditional home at a stadium Wasps told their supporters it would be impossible for them to move to as nobody would be allowed to play rugby there

Always remember going to Bristol City not so long ago and a Premiership rugby game was played on the Friday night, you would never have known as their pitch was amazing aswell.
