In November, Race Leys Infant School children had the opportunity to meet some Coventry City FC stars such as Jodi Jones, Ruben Lameiras, Lee Burge, Jack Finch, and Daniel Agyei.

The visit was organised by Sky Blues in the Community and Coventry City FC as part of the new Premier League Primary Stars project with the players attending straight from training to visit the pupils. The first part of the lesson saw the children ask the players a variety of questions about what it’s like to be a professional footballer and their participation in sport and PE when they were younger. This was followed by the players taking part in the FUNdamentals based PE lesson with the children.

The Premier League is using the appeal of football and sport to inspire the younger generation and looks to make a positive impact in primary schools all over the country.

The PE lesson was based around the Premier League core values, which are: be ambitious, be connected, be inspiring and be fair. The lesson highlighted these values and the Coventry City players enthusiasm really helped to engage the children. During the lesson it was clear the children were mimicking the actions of their favourite players and the children without a doubt went away inspired.

Coventry City FC Goalkeeper, Lee Burge said: “It’s great to see so many children enjoying sport. The Premier League Primary Stars project really encourages young people to become engaged with physical activity.”

Coventry City FC Midfielder, Jodi Jones said: “As a youngster I really enjoyed PE and it no doubt had an influence on my ambitions to become involved in sport. This project is giving the children an opportunity to become inspired and find enjoyment through sport.”
